Chapter 165: Little Drama Queen
After tossing off a few barbed remarks at Chen Rong, Chen Liang bounced away in high spirits to find Xiao Yu. Once the two of them got lovey-dovey together, they completely lost track of time.
"Second Sister-in-law, when are we going to eat..." Before she could finish the word "food," Chen Rong caught sight of Xiao Yu sitting on Chen Liang's lap, looking thoroughly disheveled.
"Ah!" The first shriek came from the younger sister Chen Rong, and the second naturally belonged to Xiao Yu.
Chen Liang had been careless. Ever since Xiao Yu moved into the third-floor curator's office, Chen Liang rarely bothered locking the door. Apart from the routine Monday work meeting, nobody ever came up to the third floor to look for the curator.
With a dark expression, Chen Liang scolded his younger sister, who was covering her eyes with fingers spread wide enough to stuff an egg through: "What are you still standing there for? Get out right now!"
Actually, Chen Liang and Xiao Yu hadn't been doing anything untoward; they had simply been romping around, which left Xiao Yu's clothes all wrinkled.
Yet Chen Rong's appearance had been far too sudden, scaring Xiao Yu so badly that her face turned stark white!
After shooing Chen Rong out, Chen Liang pulled Xiao Yu into his embrace and coaxed her for quite a while before her heart finally settled. During this time, Chen Liang took several of Xiao Yu's ultra-cute, fatal combo punches—delivered with the "lightly beating your chest" technique.
Xiao Yu was genuinely angry, putting her entire strength into those blows against Chen. However, to thick-skinned Chen Liang, those punches felt no different from mosquito bites—albeit from a slightly oversized mosquito.
Once Xiao Yu was pacified, Chen Liang stepped outside to find Chen Rong standing all alone by the wall near the doorway, looking like a grade-schooler who had just done something wrong.
Though lingering traces of irritation still simmered within him, Chen Liang silently recited several times in his head: *She's my own sister, don't get angry, if you make her cry you'll be the one who has to coax her!* Only then did he manage to forcefully suppress his temper.
"Stop standing there, let's go! My great ancestor!" Everyone knows who the little ancestor refers to, so I won't name names.
"Second Brother, you yelled at me just now! You've never raised your voice at me since we were kids, and now you actually did it over such a tiny little thing, wuwuwu..."
Good grief, are women really made of water? Can those tears be summoned on command just like that?
And do me a favor, next time you pull off an acting stunt, at least restrain the upward curve of the corners of your mouth! It's so blatant it makes me want to laugh!
What an utterly unprofessional little drama queen! She's not even as good as little Chen Hong!
"Alright, stop crying. Let's skip the formalities and just state your conditions!" Chen Liang was rendered utterly speechless.
Good grief, what kind of absurdity is this! She was clearly the one in the wrong, yet the moment a tear dropped, the tables instantly turned, making him the bad guy!
"Wuwuwu, Second Brother, you don't care about me at all anymore!" Right, so the performance wasn't over yet, huh?
"Are you going to talk or not? If not, I'm going off to the cafeteria to get my food!" Not wanting to bicker any further with his younger sister, Chen Liang resorted to a direct threat.
Stubbornly continuing her act, Chen Rong refused to budge. Losing his patience, Chen Liang took two steps forward.
Seeing the cooked duck about to fly away, Chen Rong instantly stopped crying and leaped in a single bound straight onto Chen Liang's back.
"Second Brother, I want a new piece of clothing. Yushui's sister-in-law already said she's making her one tonight as a gift for starting her job!" Chen Rong whispered right into Chen Liang's ear.
You fake plastic sisters are really something else, even comparing clothes over something like this! Unbelievable!
Supporting Chen Rong with his hands so she wouldn't slide off, Chen Liang asked, "Then why are you telling me? If you lack fabric, go find the eldest sister-in-law; if you want clothes made, go to Mom!"
"I wouldn't dare! If I tell Mom, she'll definitely scold me for being wasteful! Second Brother... won't you just help me out?" Chen Rong pleaded while swaying back and forth against Chen Liang's back to act spoiled.
"Stop shaking me around. You're a grown young lady now, so stop acting all spoiled with me all the time!" Just as Chen Liang carried Chen Rong down to the second floor, he spotted He Yushui waiting nearby for Chen Rong to come down.
"I don't care! Who told you to be my second brother? I'll act spoiled with you all I want!" Seeing her good friend Yushui standing right there, Chen Rong felt not a shred of embarrassment.
Anyway, she frequently acted spoiled in front of Chen Liang right in front of Yushui at home, so naturally she didn't care at all.
"Get down already, I said I'll handle it. You're an eighteen-year-old young woman, and you're still as childish as little Chen Hong—aren't you ashamed?" After putting his younger sister down, Chen Liang greeted He Yushui.
"Yushui!"
"Second Brother Chen!"
Escorting two pretty young maidens, Chen Liang garnered a great deal of envious glances all along the way.
All three Chen siblings had inherited Mother Chen's delicate features, sharing remarkably similar facial structures, so anyone with eyes could immediately tell that Chen Rong was Chen Liang's sister.
Thus, when Chen Liang led the two of them into the cafeteria, instead of joining the three distinctly separated, long winding queues, they walked straight to the front of the line that only had a few people waiting.
Yushui instantly drew the attention of the others stuck waiting in the long lines. As for Chen Rong and Chen Liang, needless to say, one was the curator's husband and the other the curator's younger sister—definitely nobody who would dare mess with them.
Yet this young girl wearing a brand-new work uniform dared to line up at Silly Zhu's serving window; she was clearly walking right into a trap and bound to get the short end of the stick.
An older woman standing in the adjacent queue couldn't bear to watch the young girl get cheated, so she quietly tugged at Yushui's clothes.
"Young lady, you'd better come over and queue up in our line instead. Even though it's long, it's still much better than standing in that one!"
"Huh?" Taken aback by the kind woman, Yushui looked around in confusion and awkwardly replied, "Thank you, elder sister, but I think I'll just stay in this line. I won't move over!"
Listening from the side, Chen Liang found it quite amusing. "Sister Zhang, you're still as warm-hearted as ever! But this time, your kind intentions are actually messing things up. Do you know who she is..."
Chen Liang pointed a finger toward Silly Zhu. "She is Silly Zhu's own younger sister. Do you think Silly Zhu would ever dare serve his own sister a completely vegetarian meal?"
Sister Zhang was a veteran employee at the library. When Chen Liang first brought Xiao Yu on board, she had warmly helped them out—a kind-hearted woman of exceptional character.
"Oh my, so that's how it is! And here you are, Section Chief Chen, keeping quiet just to make a fool out of me!" Sister Zhang burst into a laugh upon hearing Chen Liang's words.
Just as they were speaking, it was finally Chen Liang's turn to get his food. The moment he handed his lunchbox across the counter, Silly Zhu's motormouth started flapping away.
"Liangzi, what were you all talking about just now? So lively!" Dumping a lunchbox piled high with meat, Silly Zhu couldn't resist leaning forward to ask Chen Liang.
"Ha! What else is there to talk about in the cafeteria besides your own glorious achievements? Just filling Yushui in on them!"
Unpleased upon hearing that, Silly Zhu clutched his serving spoon and defended himself, "Liangzi, if you're going to put it that way, we need to have a serious talk. What do you mean by 'glorious achievements'? Is there anything about my work as head chef of the back kitchen that isn't up to standard?"
You really take the cake, Silly Zhu. Spouting such barefaced lies without even blushing! I refuse to believe you haven't noticed the kind of people lining up at your window every single day!
