Chapter 149: Coming to the Rescue
That involuntary leg-crossing was completely subconscious for Li Xiaoxia, because if she did not keep her legs pressed together, her close-fitting panties would surely have gotten wet.
"I am listening. It's not taking up any time." After saying this, she stole a quick glance at Chen Liang and then swiftly lowered her head.
A single glance was enough. If she kept looking, she would no longer be able to control the primordial force surging within her body.
Chen Liang looked at the young beauty before him who dared not meet his eyes. Keeping a calm and composed expression on the outside, he couldn't help but mentally pat himself on the back.
As a seasoned veteran of the romantic battlefields who in his past life would always turn to stare whenever a beauty walked past, an ultimate ocean-emperor playboy, and Chen Liang the self-proclaimed "women's friend," he was far too familiar with Li Xiaoxia's current expression. Here was yet another victim conquered by his irresistible charm.
The street was chaotic due to the fight, so Chen Liang had simply stood beside Xiaoyu to protect her while chatting, and in just a few brief words, he had captured the worldly-naive maiden heart of Li Xiaoxia.
However, Chen Liang only ever dared to talk a big game. To actually make a move? Absolutely out of the question!
Because the social climate of this era was truly unfriendly to playboys. Getting a taste of lead bullets at every turn was quite terrifying, you see!
Xiaoyu, whose IQ dropped to zero whenever she was around Chen Liang, remained completely oblivious to his restless inner thoughts. Instead, she laughed and joked with him, thoroughly amused and delighted.
Alas, Xiaoyu was still too young after all, failing to notice Chen Liang's ulterior motives. Otherwise, when she got home tonight, even without a computer keyboard, she would surely pull out a washboard to deal with Chen Liang.
After some restructuring by the junior martial uncle, the security department of the Red Star Rolling Mill maintained a very prompt response time. Before long, a military-green sidecar motorcycle came chugging along with a loud, put-putting sound.
Cao Dawu led two armed guards, parked the sidecar, and quickly pushed through the crowd to walk over. "Who was the one that called the police earlier to report a fight?"
"Fifth Brother, I'm right here!" Little Bastard waved his hand to signal upon seeing a familiar face.
"Dagang? What happened to you? Who cracked your skull open? I'm going to go cripple them!" Upon hearing the voice and turning his head to see Little Bastard covered in blood, Dawu instantly flew into a rage and demanded repeatedly.
"Fifth Brother, Brother Liang is here too. Look over there!" Little Bastard, unwilling to talk about his own humiliating experience, pushed Chen Liang out as a shield.
"Brother Liang, you're here too. What's going on here?" Following the direction of Little Bastard's finger, Dawu finally spotted Chen Liang and hurried over to inquire about the situation.
"Don't ask me. The moment I stepped out of the house, this little bastard was already going at it with someone. For the specific details, you should take a statement from Comrade Li Xiaoxia here first."
"Understood. Female Comrade, could you please recount what happened at the time?" Hearing Chen Liang's instruction, Dawu took out a notepad and pen and said to Li Xiaoxia.
After finishing the last stroke, Dawu handed the notepad to Li Xiaoxia for a quick look. "Comrade, please take a look. Is what I wrote correct? If there are no issues, please sign it!"
After carefully inspecting it and making sure there were no errors, Li Xiaoxia signed her name.
Dawu then took back the statement book and gave Little Bastard a light punch. "Gang, not bad at all! You've actually learned how to play the hero saving the damsel in distress. Not bad, worthy of praise—except you look a bit pathetic, getting your head beaten until it's covered in red. A bit embarrassing, haha! This won't leave facial scars, will it?"
Little Bastard was left somewhat speechless by Dawu's remarks, but then again, childhood friends who grew up together always busted each other's chops. He simply treated it as hot air passing by!
"Alright, cut the chatter. Dawu, take them back first and check if they have any previous criminal records. If they do, lump them together and deal with the whole lot!"
Pausing for a moment, he continued, "This matter must be dealt with severely. To dare to harass a young woman in broad daylight—do they even give a damn about the law anymore? If I don't make them spend ten or eight years rotting in a hard labor camp, you can write my surname 'Chen' backwards!"
Hearing Chen Liang speak of official business, Cao Dawu shed his previous frivolous smile. Once Chen Liang finished, he nodded firmly. "You have my word, Brother Liang. Not a single one of these pests will escape!"
With that, he summoned the accompanying security guards, slapped handcuffs on the culprits, mounted the sidecar, and escorted them back to the security office.
With the hooligans hauled away and no more dramatic show to watch, the street crowd naturally dispersed. Chen Liang looked at Little Bastard, who was still bleeding from the top of his head. "Walk slowly for a bit. Once I take Xiaoyu home, I'll take you to the hospital to get bandaged up!"
"It's nothing, Brother Liang. Go handle your business; a tiny injury like this is nothing. I'll just go home and pack some incense ash on it and it'll be fine. What hospital? I'm not going!" Little Bastard was reluctant to go to the hospital, mainly out of fear of losing face.
"Cut the crap, just do as I say! With a gash this big, incense ash is completely useless. Start walking toward the hospital, and I'll catch up with you in a moment!"
Originally, Chen Liang had intended to let Xiaoyu walk home by herself, but recalling how she had previously been blocked and harassed by hoodlums on the road, he suddenly felt uneasy.
Therefore, he had no choice but to wrong his childhood friend a little bit, dropping Xiaoyu off first before taking him to the hospital.
With that, he hopped on his bicycle and quickly returned to the Chen residence, carrying Xiaoyu, who felt a lingering reluctance to part ways with her old schoolmate.
He dropped Xiaoyu off at the compound gate, told her to ask Mother Chen to save some dinner for him, and then rode his bicycle along the hospital route to find Little Bastard.
After catching up with Little Bastard on the road, Chen Liang carried him all the way at top speed to the hospital. When the doctor used alcohol to disinfect and clean the wound, just watching it made Chen Liang wince in pain!
As for Little Bastard, needless to say, the pain made the veins on his forehead bulge, cold sweat stream down, his face distort, and his teeth nearly grind to powder.
Disinfecting a wound with alcohol was essentially like rubbing salt into it—no different from a form of medieval torture.
After the doctor finished cleaning the wound, he inspected it and said, "This wound is a bit too large. Stitches are mandatory. Go prepare the anesthetic!"
"No need, Doctor. I'm already numb from the pain, so I don't need any anesthetic. Just stitch it right up!" Little Bastard was quite the tough guy, actually wanting to forgo anesthesia for stitches.
"Oh, cut it out. Doctor, just do whatever you need to do. Don't listen to this kid's nonsense; he took a brick to the head, so his brain is still scrambled."
Hearing Chen Liang's words, the doctor finally nodded. No wonder this fellow had suggested skipping the anesthetic—it turned out he had taken a brick to the dome!
When they finally emerged from the hospital and Chen Liang brought Little Bastard back home, Father Chen had already set up his usual gathering of neighbors. Seeing Little Bastard with his head wrapped in gauze, everyone found it immensely fascinating.
As the saying goes, there are no secrets among neighbors. The news that Little Bastard had acted gallantly to uphold justice and gotten his skull cracked open spread throughout the entire alleyway in less than half an hour.
