Chapter 120: Escorting the Prisoner

It was no exaggeration to say that Lu Bu was invincible in team fights during the later stages of the game. That was exactly what Chen Liang had done the night before: after enchanting his weapon with his first skill, he leaped straight into the fray with his ultimate, absorbed a shield with his second skill, then went on a killing spree—five consecutive kills—until he ruled the battlefield!
Diao Chan had been beaten into total disarray, able only to hop back and forth within the circle of her own ultimate. In the end, tears of regret over starting the fight too rashly slipped from beneath the hem of her clinging skirt.
After a night of wild abandon, Chen Liang rose early the next morning. Silly Zhu, who lived next door, emerged from his house as well, dark circles under his eyes, yawning repeatedly, and wearing the exhausted expression of a man thoroughly worn out.
Even with the aid of his secret aphrodisiac liquor, Silly Zhu was no match for Chen Liang. Thus, whenever Chen Liang drank beyond all reasonable limits, Silly Zhu suffered—and enjoyed himself—in equal measure.
After washing up, Chen Liang cast Silly Zhu a disdainful glance, the way a master looked down upon a novice.
What an overconfident fool. He had actually dared to challenge Chen Liang. He was simply courting death!
As the saying went, even the kindest words could not save a man determined to die. Chen Liang would let Silly Zhu do as he pleased. If the man truly could not keep up, Chen Liang could always follow the example of Cao the Traitor and quote that immortal line:
“Your wife and children—I’ll take care of them!”
Liu Siyuan was a complete weakling. They had been married for so long, yet she still had barely anything to show for it. Silly Zhu cooked her all manner of delicious meals every day, and Chen Liang could not understand where all that food had gone.
Never mind. A woman with nothing to speak of was too bony to handle. His own Xiaoyu, softly plump and fragrant, was far better. Silly Zhu could keep his wife to himself!
Of course, “softly plump” had its standards. The right places had to be full, the right places slender, with everything perfectly proportioned. That was what a softly plump figure meant. Otherwise, disregard everything just said!
After seeing Xiaoyu off to work, Chen Liang did not even enter the library. He waited until her figure disappeared behind the main gate, then quickly cycled back to the Red Star Steelworks.
The previous day, Chen Liang had arrested two separate groups of people. His immediate task was to finish establishing the facts of the cases and report them to the ministry.
Whether they had stolen money or tried to molest Xiaoyu, Chen Liang had no intention of letting any of them off. He would make an example of them and show everyone that the Security Section under his command—no, under his senior uncle’s command—would kill gods when it met gods and slay Buddhas when it met Buddhas!
He wanted to see who would dare make trouble in front of the Security Section of the Red Star Steelworks again. Hmph! Anyone who was not afraid to die could come and try!
The evidence was conclusive, and all the suspects had been caught red-handed. Chen Liang soon completed the written reports, had them sign and seal their confessions, and then arranged for the prisoners to be loaded into vehicles and taken to the Municipal Public Security Bureau.
However, before the vehicles had even left the factory compound, the prisoner transport was blocked.
Looking at the middle-aged man standing in front of his vehicle and shouting for him to get out, Chen Liang was speechless. He had never expected someone truly unafraid of death to come knocking of his own accord, offering himself as a target for Chen Liang to establish his authority.

Fully armed, Chen Liang stepped out of the vehicle with a cold expression, instantly filling the air with oppressive force.
“Who are you? You actually dare obstruct official business. Are you looking to die?”
“Uncle Second, save me!”
The moment Lei San’er saw his uncle arrive, he became wildly agitated and sprang to his feet inside the Liberation truck.
After a full day and night of events brewing, the Lei family had finally gotten wind of what had happened. Thus, early that morning, they had rushed to the Red Star Steelworks to demand the prisoner’s release.
Lei San’er had barely shouted one sentence when a security soldier beside him struck him down with the butt of a rifle. This left his uncle frantic.
“Hey! What are you doing? How can you just hit people?”
Chen Liang laughed at that.
“Just hit people? He committed a crime. Do you know that?”
“Of course I know. I’m the director of the Public Order Section at the West City Precinct. I’m here to take custody of the prisoner. Come over and complete the handover.”
Damn it—a plant!
So this fool was trying to bluff Chen Liang? Hand over the prisoner to him? Who did a mere section director think he was?
“Hah! Are all the people at the West City Precinct as worthless as you?”
Chen Liang sized him up with an unfriendly gaze, then said contemptuously, “You? A lowly public-order section director, and you actually think you’re important? You even have the nerve to snatch food from our Security Section. Who gave you that courage?”
This was all the fault of the former chief of the Security Section. He had left outsiders with the impression that the section was weak and easy to bully. Now even a deputy-section-level official from a precinct dared climb onto their heads and throw his weight around.
After all, not everyone possessed the deep military connections of Chen Liang’s senior uncle. And anyone who could be casually manipulated by Director Yang, an administrator of equal rank, could hardly be expected to stand firm outside. As the saying went: a man may be incompetent in dealing with outsiders yet tyrannical in his own nest—a mouse carrying a rifle, brave only at home!
“What did you say? Boy, don’t refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a penalty. Go and fetch your section chief, Lu Youwei, right now. Tell him that Old Tiger Lei wants to see him!”
“How many keys do you think you’re worth? And you call yourself Old Tiger Lei? You’re more like a sick cat. Do you really think you’re worthy of knowing my senior uncle?”
At those words, Chen Liang slapped him so hard that he lost all sense of direction. Then he spat straight in his face.

His pistol was taken from him on the spot, and he was handcuffed and thrown into the truck as well.
“Since you claim to be the director of the Public Order Section, you can explain yourself to your superiors later. Take him away!”
After loading Lei San’er’s uncle into the vehicle, Chen Liang turned toward the remaining officers from the Public Order Section.
“What? Do you want to be handcuffed and taken along too?”
“No… no… we…”
Before they could finish, Chen Liang waved them off.
“If you don’t want to be arrested, then get lost—quickly! You’ve been spoiled rotten. Move out!”
Once the vehicles started, the remaining officers scattered like smoke. They had to hurry back and spread the news: the director of the Public Order Section had been arrested by the Security Section of the Red Star Steelworks. It seemed that the balance of power in the West City was about to change.
Inside the truck, Old Tiger Lei continued shouting that he would make Chen Liang pay. But as the vehicle traveled farther and farther away, panic began to creep into his heart.
This was clearly not the road to the West City Precinct.
So that was why Old Tiger Lei had been so confident—he had assumed Chen Liang would deliver them to the precinct?
A case involving such an enormous sum of stolen money—how could it possibly be handled by a mere precinct? Think bigger, friend!
Chen Liang had bypassed both the precinct and the Municipal Public Security Bureau, reporting the case directly to the Public Security authorities and the Armed Forces Department. The prisoners were now being taken to the Municipal Bureau, where both departments had attached great importance to the matter and had even assigned specialists to handle the investigation.
That was the power of his senior uncle’s connections. They did not waste time wrestling with petty demons; they went straight to the King of Hell to make their complaint. The only question was whether those little demons were afraid.
When they reached the entrance of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, Chen Liang waited for the vehicle to come to a stop, then sprang from the driver’s cab. He helped the security soldiers open the rear panel of the truck and had the prisoners climb down and line up in order. Only then did he personally escort Old Tiger Lei into the bureau’s investigation hall.
“Old Tiger Lei, is it? Now, in front of your superiors, you can explain exactly how you planned to make me suffer the consequences.”
