Chapter 115: Quitting for Good

Xiao Liuzi’s worries were met with Chen Liang’s disdainful dismissal. “Liuzi, you’re just overthinking it. Don’t forget, you’re now a member of the Security Section at Red Star Rolling Mill, not some street punk anymore. What’s a district security chief compared to that? He’s nothing!” Chen Liang’s words were brash and confident, showing no respect for Lei Sanyu’s uncle, the security chief.
The Security Section at Red Star Rolling Mill theoretically held jurisdiction over any place where the mill’s workers were present, wielding astonishing power. With tens of thousands of workers scattered throughout the entire Sijiu City like chess pieces, and given the nature of those worker “big brothers,” whenever there was trouble at home—no matter how big or small—the first call was invariably to their own Security Section. As for the Public Security Patrol or the Public Security Bureau? Sorry, they had to stand aside! When jurisdictions overlap, some have more authority than others.
This chaotic situation continued for over a decade until Chen Liang’s Security Section was reorganized, restructured, and incorporated as internal security, which finally improved things. But at this moment, the Security Section was at the peak of its power. Except for orders from the Ministry of Public Security or the Armed Forces Department, even if the city bureau came, it didn’t have much sway.
This was Chen Liang’s arrogant confidence. A fifty-something district security chief might not even outrank him administratively!
“Got it, Brother Liang. I know what to do now,” reassured Xiao Liuzi. With Chen Liang as his backing, his fears subsided. If something went wrong, his big brother had his back—why be afraid? Just confront them head-on!
After seeing off Cao Dawu and Xiao Liuzi, Chen Liang tidied up briefly and sent word that the money had been found and was on its way out with Feng. Then he went to report to Big Thick Legs, his true source of strength.
Chen Liang’s move was to calm the anxious workers at the mill. Until the money was truly recovered, everything had to remain stable.
Without knocking, Chen Liang pushed open Big Thick Legs’ office door. Just about to speak, he saw Factory Director Yang was also inside. Initially intending to call Big Thick Legs, he changed course and said instead, “Chief, there’s progress on the case. By this afternoon at the latest, the stolen fortune will be recovered!”
“Really? You little brat better not be lying, or I’ll break your legs!” Big Thick Legs ignored Director Yang, who was trying to engage him, and looked straight at Chen Liang.
Chen Liang rolled his eyes in displeasure. Damn, if getting into trouble means broken legs, then working hard is a surefire way to lose a limb. What did his long legs ever do to deserve this?

“I think you’re just jealous because I’m taller than you!” Chen Liang retorted.
“Don’t worry, Chief, I guarantee this is no mistake! I swear on my long legs—no lies!”
Director Yang glanced over but wisely chose not to interfere further. He stood and said, “Chief Lu, think it over again. I won’t disturb your work any longer. Goodbye!”
Passing by Chen Liang, Director Yang gave a fake friendly smile, only to be met with a cold, stern look in return.
After Director Yang left, Chen Liang sat down and gave Big Thick Legs a detailed briefing on the situation.
“That’s it?” Big Thick Legs looked skeptical. “What else do you want? Trust me, when it comes to handling things, I’ve got it covered!”
Though Chen Liang’s approach was somewhat theatrical, he was supremely confident, supported by over 1,400 deceased elementary school students backing him from behind.
“Big Thick Legs, this case isn’t complicated at all. Once you eliminate all impossibilities, whatever remains—no matter how outrageous—must be the truth!”
The two smoked and drank tea quietly in the office, waiting for the outcome. Sure enough, just before lunch, Cao Dawu returned with good news.
“Brother Liang, it’s incredible! How did you know Lei Sanyu and the others stole the money?” Cao Dawu looked at Chen Liang as if he were a stranger, his gaze full of awe.
“Them? You mean not just Lei Sanyu and Zhang Zhiming? There are others involved?”
“Yeah, Lei Sanyu stubbornly denied it at first, trying to act tough in front of us! But after Xiao Wangba beat him up badly, he immediately came clean and spilled the whole operation.”
“Serves him right. Weren’t you and Liuzi the only ones there? Where did Xiao Wangba come from?” Chen Liang gave Cao Dawu a knowing look.
Cao Dawu caught on immediately. “Well, we were worried about being outnumbered, so Liuzi and I called in Second Young Master and Xiao Wangba to help.”

“Ah, that makes sense. Then, Big Thick Legs…” Chen Liang was cut off mid-sentence.
“You little brat, never a straight word from you. Enough of the double talk. You just want those two to join the Security Section, don’t you?”
“Here’s the deal: once you help recover the stolen money and lay it before me, I’ll personally see to it they get recruited. Now get moving—if anything goes wrong, I’ll break your dog legs!”
Damn, just a plant!
So you want to compete with my legs, huh? Big Thick Legs, next time can we pick another spot to settle this?
With Big Thick Legs’ assurance, Chen Liang didn’t waste a moment. Taking Cao Dawu, he left the office. On the way, Cao Dawu recounted every detail again.
When he finished, Chen Liang pondered and said, “So you mean the money is still in the hands of those thugs in the western district?”
“Exactly! Last night, Lei Sanyu was on lookout, Zhang Zhiming did the stealing, and that gang led by Little Fox handled the backup. They planned to split the loot after things calmed down.”
If Chen Liang and his crew once mingled with society to show off and avoid being bullied, Little Fox’s gang were pure scum—hooligans and thugs who cheated, stole, and committed all manner of evil.
“Damn it! These scoundrels have no fear, stealing right under my nose. If I don’t wipe them out, then my name Chen Liang might as well be disgraced forever.”
Chen Liang’s heart hardened. He had once hoped to leave some margin for mercy, but now he had changed his mind.
These fiends must be dealt with swiftly and ruthlessly. In chaotic times, only strong measures can protect his family through the coming storm!
