Chapter Ninety: Rescue

Chu Bing was really tempted to shoot back, “Fine by me!”

Bang!

In the boundless sea, two figures suddenly fell from the sky and smashed straight into the water, sending spray flying in all directions.

Sea water rushed into Chu Bing’s ears, and her eardrums thundered with a dull roar. The system had already activated a protective shield for her, so she was not harmed when she fell.

But Li Yuxi, who had fallen with her, was half dead.

Chu Bing surfaced and, seeing the shore not far away, was about to swim toward it.

“Host, aren’t you going to look for Li Yuxi?”

Chu Bing doggedly paddled forward and said without hesitation, “I’m not saving him! That bastard would be lucky not to want my life!”

The system reminded her, “Host, Li Yuxi may know where Li Haoran is. If you save him now, he might be moved by your kindness and, to repay the favor, tell you where Li Haoran is!”

Chu Bing paused mid-stroke and floated on the water. “That makes a lot of sense!”

She drew a deep breath and dove beneath the sea.

Chu Bing swam into the water and found Li Yuxi.

His eyes were tightly shut, drifting motionless in the water, as though already dead.

“No way?” Chu Bing swam over, cautiously feeling for his pulse. Finding the faintest trace of life, she hurriedly half-dragged, half-carried him out of the water.

It took all her strength to bring Li Yuxi ashore.

She lay flat on the beach, staring blankly up at the sky. “I’m exhausted! If Li Yuxi still doesn’t remember my kindness and know gratitude this time, then the next time he’s in danger, I’ll make sure to hand him a knife myself!”

The system had been about to laugh at Chu Bing for overestimating herself, but the moment it spoke, its voice was full of terror. “Host! Run!”

Chu Bing turned in confusion, and saw a scene she would never forget for the rest of her life.

A black crocodile, about ten meters long, rose from the water and fixed its silent stare on her and Li Yuxi.

The hair all over Chu Bing’s body stood on end. She scrambled up and staggered backward, trying to run. “What kind of hellhole is this?!”

The seawater behind her seemed to erupt into a storm, cold water crashing down over Chu Bing like a deluge.

She was already stumbling away when she suddenly remembered that Li Yuxi was still on the beach!

If she ran, he would be as good as dead!

A fierce battle raged in Chu Bing’s heart. Rationally, she should turn and run at once.

But...

Chu Bing gritted her teeth and suddenly turned back and sprinted toward him.

She was only saving him so she could get Li Haoran’s whereabouts from his mouth, not because she had softened toward him!

In his dazed state, Li Yuxi opened his eyes, only to see a giant fish surging straight toward him. The waves swept him back into the sea.

“Li Yuxi!” Seeing him carried off before her eyes, Chu Bing did not hesitate for a second and leaped straight into the water.

The giant fish twisted nimbly through the sea, opening its mouth to swallow countless small fish and shrimp. Just as it was about to gulp down Li Yuxi, Chu Bing instantly triggered her teleportation skill and landed on the fish’s head. Clenching both fists, she poured all her inner power onto the creature and smashed down hard.

Bang!

Bang, bang!

With every punch Chu Bing landed, the giant fish convulsed once. Its tail whipped up monstrous waves. Chu Bing felt as if her fists were about to split open. At this rate, not only would she fail to kill the fish, she herself would die here.

She gritted her teeth and, with all her might, gathered every trace of inner power into her fist and slammed it viciously onto the fish’s head.

With a deafening crash, the whole sea trembled, and a thick stench of blood spread through the water.

Panting hard, Chu Bing felt the fish beneath her go still. She immediately jumped into the sea and raced straight toward Li Yuxi.

His face had already turned a blue-gray color, and on that peerlessly handsome face there was a fragile beauty. In the pitch-black depths, he seemed as bewitching as a sea demon.

One glance was enough to make Chu Bing’s heart tighten.

She forcefully tore her gaze away from his face, then grabbed his arm and swam with him toward the surface.

“Host, Li Yuxi is about to suffocate!” The system sensed something wrong and hurriedly warned her.

Chu Bing’s face changed. “What do you mean?”

“Quickly, give him air, or all your effort just now will have been wasted!”

Chu Bing’s mouth twitched, and she turned her head away in distaste. “But it’s Li Yuxi!”

That bastard who always bullied her and made trouble for her at every turn!

Chu Bing really could not bring herself to do it.

The system gave a faint, eerie reminder. “Host, how was it that you could do that to Li Morhan before? Could it be that you really like him?”

The words “like him” jolted Chu Bing. If she dared say she liked Li Morhan, the system would never let her off!

But if she had no special feelings for either Li Morhan or Li Yuxi, then why could she not give Li Yuxi air?

“Let me remind the host again: if the host develops feelings for anyone unrelated to the mission, the system will impose punishment on the host!”

Electrocution?”

Chu Bing glanced silently at the seawater beside her, then decisively cupped Li Yuxi’s face and pressed her lips to his.

The soft touch of their lips left Chu Bing dazed for an instant, but she quickly came to her senses. This was no time to let down her guard.

She sent all the air in her mouth into Li Yuxi’s.

All Chu Bing wanted was to get out of the depths of the sea, so she did not notice the faintly lowered lashes on Li Yuxi’s face.

Li Yuxi thought he was going to die.

The lack of oxygen sent sharp pains through his brain.

He struggled to open his eyes, wanting to take one last look at the world, but what met him was an unfamiliar yet strangely familiar face.

It was Chu Bing.

That woman had her eyes lightly closed, as if in an act of sacrifice, and was offering him her lips.

The moment their warm, soft lips touched, Li Yuxi felt as though his long-dead heart had begun to beat once more.

In the final instant before he lost consciousness, one thought flashed through his mind: if he survived, he would make sure this woman stayed by his side forever.

Chu Bing felt Li Yuxi’s breathing gradually steady and immediately dragged him upward.

She was almost completely spent. Every breath made her chest ache fiercely.

Chu Bing dragged Li Yuxi behind a large reef by the shore, and just then her eyes caught sight of the tide washing the giant fish’s corpse toward them.

She looked up at the sky; it was nearly dark already. After being tossed about all day, she might as well make something to eat.

Dragging her numb legs, she hauled the giant fish over and then lit a campfire.

The system silently watched Chu Bing’s string of actions and could not help asking, “Aren’t you tired?”

A normal person would already be collapsed on the ground resting by now.

Chu Bing gave a cold laugh, her eyes calm in a way unbefitting her age. “I do want to rest. But do I dare?”

She pointed at Li Yuxi, unconscious on the ground. “The moment he wakes up, he’ll do everything he can to kill me. How could I rest?”

She was afraid that if she closed her eyes, she would never see the world again.
