Chapter 152: Grant Me One Request
Although Chu Bing and Li Haoran worked together with tacit understanding, two pairs of fists could ultimately not defeat four hands, and they quickly began to lose ground.
A man in black broke through their defense line, bringing his blade down right between Chu Bing and Li Haoran, forcibly driving the two apart!
"Slash!"
A long sword plunged straight into Chu Bing's abdomen.
"I'm going to die..."
"No, you aren't! This system will absolutely not let you die! Host, stay strong!" Sensing Chu Bing's condition, the system kept bouncing around inside her mind.
Although she felt no physical pain, seeing so much blood gushing out of her own body still terrified her, okay?
Chu Bing knelt on one knee, her fingers gripping the long whip turning white with exertion.
The men in black drew closer, and Chu Bing's breathing grew heavier and sharper.
She was searching for an opening in the enemy.
Just as the assassin was about to reach Chu Bing, a blade pierced through his heart from behind.
The man in black collapsed limply to the ground.
Chu Bing's vision was scattering, and through the blur, a graceful figure walked toward her with unhurried steps.
He squatted down in front of her, his fingers gently brushing the stray locks of hair from her forehead back behind her ear. His tone was a mix of helpless exasperation and a trace of indulgence, "Why are you always so restless? I only left for a moment, and you managed to cover yourself in injuries."
Chu Bing parted her lips and breathed out a single name, "Li Yuxi."
It turned out to be Li Yuxi. Hadn't he already left? How had he come back?
Li Yuxi half-lifted Chu Bing into his arms and rose to his feet. The surrounding men in black were instantly on high alert against this sudden intruder, brandishing their swords as they charged forward. Li Yuxi flicked his sleeve, channeling a tremor through his palm, and all the assassins crashed instantly to the ground.
"Now, whether you want to come with me or not, you have no choice." Li Yuxi patted Chu Bing's head with a triumphant expression. He prepared to leave with her in his arms, but Chu Bing grabbed onto his sleeve.
Her throat was painfully hoarse. "Li Yuxi, help Li Haoran."
"You want me to help him?" Li Yuxi raised an eyebrow, casting a disgusted look at Li Haoran, who was cornered like a trapped beast amidst the crowd.
He pressed Chu Bing's head firmly into his embrace and took another step forward. "Stop joking. He's probably praying for me to drop dead so no one else can compete with him for the estate. Rescue him? Wouldn't that be saving an ungrateful wolf?"
Chu Bing struggled incessantly, kicking her legs wildly in mid-air like an octopus.
"If you don't save him, I won't go with you! Li Yuxi, let me go! I don't want your rescue!"
Li Yuxi paused in his tracks. He looked down at Chu Bing; the woman before him was already stained entirely with blood, making it impossible to tell whose blood—the enemy's or her own—was which. Yet Li Yuxi could still see the terrifying wounds on her body. With injuries like those, even a robust man would have collapsed by now, yet Chu Bing acted as though she felt nothing at all!
Could it be... for Li Haoran's sake, she no longer cared about her own life?
Gripping her whip, Chu Bing stubbornly turned back toward Li Haoran's direction, determined to have her way.
Li Mohan tightly grabbed Chu Bing's arm. "Are you throwing your life away just for him?"
Chu Bing bit her lower lip, her gaze clear and resolute. "If you refuse to save him, then there's no need to save me either."
Saving her would be a waste anyway!
Li Yuxi completely misinterpreted her words. His expression darkened with gloom as he suddenly pulled her firmly behind his back. "I can help you save him, but I have a condition."
"State it." Chu Bing took a deep breath, suppressing the burning anxiety within her as she looked up at Li Yuxi.
As long as he could rescue Li Haoran, she would do anything!
At this moment, her only thought was holding onto this fragile life of hers.
Li Yuxi's gaze grew increasingly frigid. "Come with me, and I'll save him."
"...I'll go with you." Chu Bing glanced at Li Haoran and nodded in agreement.
Although she had agreed to his demand verbally, a lingering sense of displeasure remained deep within Li Yuxi's heart.
As expected, she was willing to do absolutely anything for Li Haoran!
Li Yuxi desperately wanted to grab this woman by the throat and force her to make things clear: Who exactly did she love? Why was she so stubbornly devoted to Li Haoran, willing to throw away her very life for him?
Yet, looking at Chu Bing's pale face and her unyielding posture, the words failed to pass his lips.
He was afraid of hearing an answer he did not wish to receive.
Li Yuxi placed Chu Bing in a safe, open space, then drew his sword and strode toward the men in black. Realizing that Li Yuxi was a formidable opponent, the assassins did not rush him immediately; instead, they waited for their numbers to grow before surrounding him. Ironically, this tactic merely gave Li Yuxi the opportunity to wipe them all out in one fell swoop.
Possessing supreme martial arts, he left them virtually no room for maneuver during the fight. Every single strike was fiercely lethal, and the men in black could not withstand even two moves before collapsing entirely to the earth.
Li Haoran also witnessed the scene unfolding here and stood dumbfounded. "Se-Second Brother?"
Li Yuxi cast a look of disdain at him. "Don't misunderstand. I'm only here to save you for Chu Bing's sake."
"Miss Chu?" Dazed and disoriented, Li Haoran had not yet fully recovered his wits when Li Yuxi had already finished dealing with the assassins present.
The remaining men in black, sensing mortal danger, attempted to flee, but Li Yuxi gave them no such chance, kicking them heavily back to the ground.
Seeing that none of them retained the ability to fight back, Li Yuxi turned around, cast a cold glance at Li Haoran, and then swept Chu Bing up into the air, flying away with her.
From beginning to end, he never gave Chu Bing or Li Haoran a chance to speak.
Li Haoran watched their retreating figures, his expression turning dark.
"Hao'er!"
The sound of pounding hooves rang out. Before the horse had even come to a complete stop, Prime Minister Li leaped down from the saddle and stumbled frantically toward Li Haoran, followed closely by Li Mohan and a troop of soldiers.
"Father, Eldest Brother." Seeing them, Li Haoran finally let out a breath of relief as his knees grew weak, causing him to almost collapse to the ground.
Prime Minister Li hurriedly caught him. "Are you injured? You scared me to death! The next time you encounter something like this, you must tell me first—you are forbidden from acting recklessly alone, do you hear me?"
Li Haoran nodded numbly in agreement, his gaze shifting to Li Mohan.
Li Mohan's eyes swept anxiously around his surroundings, evidently searching for Chu Bing.
"If your eldest brother hadn't happened to run into me this time, goodness knows when we would have managed to find you! The other children have already been taken to a safe place. Although you were quite rash, Father still has to praise you—you handled things rather well this time..." Prime Minister Li supported Li Haoran as they walked back, his stream of chatter brimming with a father's anxious affection.
As they passed by Li Mohan, Li Haoran suddenly lowered his voice and whispered, "Eldest Brother, Miss Chu was taken away by Second Brother."
An aura of bone-chilling coldness radiated from Li Mohan.
The hands hanging at his sides clenched into tight fists before slowly relaxing.
Li Yuxi... What on earth was Chu Bing's relationship with both his second and third brothers?
