Li Mohan smiled faintly with satisfaction.

Old Zhao returned with the prepared items and, upon pushing open the door, immediately saw Li Mohan smiling at Chu Bing. His heart tightened, and unable to bear looking directly, he averted his gaze. "Young Master, the things are ready. Should we call a doctor again?"

"No need," Li Mohan waved his hand. Noticing Chu Bing rubbing her belly, he added, "You go downstairs and get something to eat first."

"Yes," Old Zhao replied but did not leave immediately. He hesitated, standing still. "Young Master, you didn’t come back all night yesterday and probably didn’t rest well. Why not take a break now? I’ll handle Miss Hongxiu here."

He feared that if Li Mohan stayed any longer, something might happen between him and Chu Bing.

Though he thought Hongxiu was better than Xiaotao, she was still not good enough for the Young Master!

Li Mohan frowned slightly, his expression turning cold.

Old Zhao was startled, immediately bowing his head and withdrawing quietly.

Once the door closed, Chu Bing finally looked up at Li Mohan. "Young Master, you were looking for me all night yesterday?"

Li Mohan expressionlessly tore open the fabric on her shoulder. When his gaze fell on the faintly seeping red stain there, his thin lips pressed into a straight line.

His fingertips pressed on the gauze, voice hoarse as he asked, "Does it hurt?"

Chu Bing flinched slightly and shook her head. "No, it doesn’t hurt."

She was afraid that if she admitted the pain, the man before her wouldn’t even dare to speak to her.

Li Mohan took scissors from the basin and cut open the gauze.

Chu Bing gritted her teeth, her face pale, but forced a smile. "It’s nothing. It just looks bad. A couple of days’ rest and it’ll be fine."

Li Mohan said nothing. He quickly applied the medicine. Just as Chu Bing thought it was over, he suddenly said, "If you need to do anything in the future, tell me first."

What did that mean? Did he expect her to enlist his help against his own father?

Chu Bing stared at the man before her, her heart a tangle of emotions.

"Although I don’t know why you want to get close to the three of us, as long as it doesn’t threaten our lives, I can help you."

"Young Master, do you realize what you’re saying?" It meant that, to some extent, Li Mohan was willing to stand by Chu Bing and oppose his father.

Li Mohan raised his eyes, quietly looking at Chu Bing. "If I say it, you naturally understand what it means."

Chu Bing couldn’t help herself; she sat up straight and threw herself into Li Mohan’s arms.

Li Mohan was stunned, his expression changing drastically. "Your wound—"

"Ouch! It hurts so much!" Before he could finish, Chu Bing collapsed onto the bed, clutching her injury and groaning continuously.

She was determined to find out who the masked man from last night was and make him pay!

It hurt so much!

Li Mohan looked at her small face scrunched up in pain, both angry and amused, but ultimately reluctant to scold her. He said softly, "Rest well. I’ll go check if the soldiers outside have withdrawn."

Chu Bing waved her hand weakly, without the strength to speak.

"Cough, cough."

Once Li Mohan left, the system coughed twice inside Chu Bing’s mind, drawing her attention.

Chu Bing gasped, clutching her wound. "What is it?"

"I think we should have a serious talk about your love life," the system’s voice sounded grave.

Chu Bing’s expression stiffened; she laughed awkwardly. "Love life? How could I be falling in love? I’m focused on the mission!"

"Don’t think I can’t tell. You and Li Mohan were clearly flirting just now."

Did the system think it was naive and clueless about feelings?

The system’s tone turned icy. "Host, this behavior isn’t the first time. I can’t keep favoring you. You must accept punishment."

Chu Bing twitched the corner of her mouth and lay spread-eagle on the bed. "Punish me however you want. I’m already in so much pain I could die. Just punish me all at once and get it over with!"

She kept mentioning death, playing the rogue role to perfection. The system really had never seen anyone like her before.

"System, look, I’m a living person. It’s only natural to lose control of my feelings sometimes, right? But I promise it won’t affect the mission. Is that acceptable?"

Chu Bing rolled her eyes and said pitifully, "I’m alone in this ancient time, with no one to rely on. Finally, someone offers to help me, and he’s so handsome. Isn’t it normal to be moved?"

"You’re just making excuses," the system muttered. "This is your last chance. No matter what happens between you and Li Mohan, it cannot affect the mission’s completion. Otherwise, the consequences will be beyond your control."

The system’s voice grew stern.

Chu Bing hurriedly raised her hand and swore, "Don’t worry! I want to live too! I’ll definitely complete the mission!"

Now she was truly certain the system was all talk but soft at heart; it had said “last chance” so many times but never truly meant it.

Chu Bing hugged her pillow and cooed, "System, you’re really nice."

The system felt a sudden glitch and quickly withdrew.

It thought its host might really be a little crazy.

Li Haoran returned to the courtyard and pushed open the door. The room was quiet, with no sign of anyone.

Even the clothes Chu Bing had changed out of last night were gone, as if last night had been a dream.

He stared expressionlessly at the empty bed, then suddenly turned and headed outside.

Besides that person, he could not think of anyone else who could have taken Chu Bing from his courtyard!

Fuming, he strode toward Li Mohan’s courtyard. Some servants noticed his grim expression and hurried after him to the Prime Minister Li’s residence.

If the two young masters fought, the servants would not have a good outcome!

When Li Haoran angrily pushed open the gate of Li Mohan’s courtyard, Old Zhao was just coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of clear noodle soup. Seeing Li Haoran’s furious face and the crowd behind him, his expression changed. "Third Young Master, what’s the matter?"

Li Haoran’s gaze scanned the courtyard but found no sign of Chu Bing. His voice was dark. "Where’s my brother? I have something to discuss with him. Tell him to come out."

"Young Master was up late last night because of the assassin. He’s still asleep in bed," Old Zhao replied humbly.

Li Haoran raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Then, Uncle Zhao, who is this bowl of noodles for?"

Old Zhao was startled, sweat beading on his forehead.

"For me," came a cold voice.

Li Haoran looked up to see Li Mohan stepping out of the bedroom, dressed in an undershirt with a coat over it, long hair draped over his shoulders, and a calm expression fixed on him.

Li Haoran’s gaze passed over him, trying to see inside the bedroom.

But Li Mohan closed the door deliberately, stepped down the stairs, and walked toward him. "Third brother, bringing so many people to my courtyard early in the morning—is that to save me face?"
