Chapter 115: Drunkenness

Chu Bing tilted her face upward and gazed at Li Yuxi beside her. Moonlight fell across his brows and eyes, making him look especially captivating.
She suddenly felt her mouth go dry.
Li Yuxi gave a soft laugh, pinched her cheek, then abruptly lifted the wine jar and tipped his head back, draining it in one go. The liquor slid down his throat and spilled onto his chest, soaking the front of his robes. His movements were effortless and dashing.
“Why aren’t you drinking?” Li Yuxi set down the jar and saw Chu Bing staring at him with a foolish look on her face.
He immediately picked up another jar and tossed it into her arms. “Drink.”
Chu Bing lowered her eyes to the jar in her embrace, then suddenly broke into a brilliant smile. She raised it high. “Shall we have a toast?”
The jars clashed with a sharp crack, and clear liquor splashed out. Li Yuxi’s eyes shone brightly.
“May we remain together from this day forward.”
A flicker of panic surfaced in Chu Bing’s eyes, but vanished almost at once. She smiled radiantly.
“All right.”
The fiery liquor slid down her throat and into her stomach. Chu Bing felt the blood throughout her body begin to boil. A burning heat surged upward, and her face quickly flushed red.
“System, this won’t do!”
She had planned to get Li Yuxi drunk, then take the opportunity to find Li Mohan and secretly leave with him and the others.
But judging from her own tolerance, Li Yuxi might remain sober while she ended up drunk herself.
The system fell silent, unwilling to pay any attention to its host.
Seeing this, Chu Bing gritted her teeth inwardly. “I’m doing this all to complete the mission! If Li Yuxi refuses to leave me for even a day, Li Mohan won’t be able to take me to find Li Haoran. If that happens, I’ll never finish the mission...”
“All right, all right. I’ll think of something!” The system could no longer stand her incessant muttering. “Just keep drinking. I’ll find a way to force the liquor out of your body.”
“He won’t notice, will he?”
Li Yuxi was extremely sharp. If he discovered that she was cheating, there was no telling whether he might deal with her on the spot.
The system gave a smug snort. “Relax. I’m one of a kind. How could an ancient man possibly discover my methods?”
Although that was likely an exaggeration, Chu Bing decided to trust it this once.
She tossed the empty jar aside, picked up another, and raised it toward Li Yuxi.
“Li Yuxi, I’ve realized that you’re actually a pretty decent person. I apologize for misunderstanding you in the past. Tonight, neither of us is leaving until we’re drunk.”
Li Yuxi looked at the little maid before him with a gentle gaze and lifted another jar, draining it in one breath.
“Chu Bing, I don’t care where you came from or what your purpose is. I only know that you saved my life. From this day forward, you are my life.”
His words rang out with force, carrying unusual weight through the silent forest.

A strange feeling stirred in Chu Bing’s heart.
The system coldly reminded her, “Host, remain calm. Completing the mission is what matters! If you fall for one person after another, I make no guarantees that you’ll survive tonight.”
Chu Bing instantly came to her senses. Regardless of whether Li Yuxi’s words were sincere, she could not allow herself to be moved.
Other than staying alive, nothing else mattered!
Chu Bing reached behind her and pinched her thigh. The pain brought tears to her eyes. Her voice choked as she gazed at Li Yuxi, her face filled with gratitude.
“Li Yuxi, thank you.”
As she spoke, she raised the wine jar again.
Li Yuxi chuckled and cheerfully picked up another jar.
One jar after another, the wine jars scattered across the ground soon emptied.
Chu Bing kept her fingers hidden behind her back. Each time she took a sip, the system forced all the alcohol from her body through her fingertips.
The patch of earth beneath her hand had long since been soaked through.
Across from her, Li Yuxi’s eyes had grown hazy, and a flush colored his cheeks. He was clearly quite drunk.
Seeing that the time was right, Chu Bing rose and turned over the wine jars. They were all empty. Then she cautiously approached Li Yuxi, bent down, and waved a hand before his eyes.
“Li Yuxi.”
Li Yuxi, who had been leaning against the tree trunk, suddenly opened his eyes and seized her fingers.
You have got to be kidding. He was still not drunk after all that?
Chu Bing was badly startled. She struggled desperately to pull her hand free, but the man opposite her held on with unyielding strength.
Li Yuxi stared at her intensely. “Chu Bing?”
His voice carried a strange hoarseness. “Why is your face so red? Are you drunk? I’ll take you back.”
As he spoke, he tried to stand. He supported himself against the tree trunk and attempted it several times, but his legs were weak, and he collapsed onto the ground.
“Li Yuxi?” Chu Bing called cautiously.
Li Yuxi gazed at her in bewilderment. At that moment, his exquisite features held an almost innocent vulnerability.
Chu Bing finally confirmed it.
He was drunk!
She bared her teeth and tried with both hands to pry open the fingers gripping her wrist, but no matter what she did, his hold remained firm.

Even thoroughly drunk, he still refused to let her go.
“Host! This is no time to be softhearted.”
“What makes you think I’m being softhearted?” Chu Bing snapped back at the system. “He’s clearly drunk. How does he still have so much strength?”
She kicked Li Yuxi irritably, while the grip around her wrist sent sharp pain through her arm.
Just then, she spotted the empty wine jars on the ground. She suddenly bent down, picked one up, and smashed it hard against Li Yuxi’s head.
“Hiss!” The system was stunned. “They say a woman’s heart is the cruelest, but this is unbelievable! How could you bring yourself to do that?”
The pain finally made Li Yuxi release her. He covered his head and sat on the ground, looking so pitiful that he resembled a lost child.
Chu Bing clapped her hands and straightened her clothes, her expression icy.
“Weren’t you the one who told me not to be softhearted? Why are you blaming me for being ruthless now?”
She cast a complicated glance at Li Yuxi on the ground, then turned to leave.
I’m sorry.
I only want to stay alive.
“Chu Bing!”
The instant she took a step, Li Yuxi called her name.
Chu Bing’s heart jolted. Had he sobered up?
She turned around. Li Yuxi opened his eyes hazily, his voice soft to the point of weakness.
“Chu Bing, don’t go.”
A wound had split open on his forehead. Blood slid down onto her cheek, making her face look like that of a midnight demon.
Chu Bing felt as though a massive stone had crushed down upon her heart, leaving her unable to breathe.
“Ever since I was little, my father favored my third brother and never cared whether I lived or died. My mother devoted herself entirely to wealth and status. If I did even the slightest thing that displeased her, she would beat me viciously. No one had ever treated me well, and no one had ever taught me how to treat others well. You are the only one who, without any connection of profit or gain, was willing to save me at the brink of life and death.”
Li Yuxi breathed heavily. His mind was a murky haze, and if not for the breath he stubbornly held on to, he would have passed out long ago.
“Chu Bing, I love you. I mean it with all my heart. If I have spoken even a single lie, may I die a miserable death.”
