Chapter Ninety-Five: Awkwardness
“The way of great learning lies in the clarification of radiant virtue…”
The old man gathered his thoughts. His voice was flat, revealing nothing of pleasure or displeasure. “Little one, are you studying the Classic of Rites?”
Wang Heng kept her head lowered, writing earnestly.
When she heard the old man’s voice, for some reason she felt that this venerable gentleman seemed somewhat disappointed.
Disappointed?
Why would he be disappointed?
And at whom?
Wang Heng mused inwardly, but did not delay her reply.
In the midst of their conversation, a few teasing remarks were inevitable, and James was the one Joseph teased most often. Luckily, Prime Minister James was not here, or else he would only have managed a wry smile.
“He must have slipped away the moment the anomaly appeared, when you weren’t paying attention.” The succubus did not blame Cirno much. After considering where Eirin might have gone, she immediately flew toward the shrine.
There was a marked difference between Frand and the man he had been a few years ago. First, Gao Jingxuan’s disappearance weighed on him; second, everything that had happened today had been brought about by nearly one mistake of his. Even if he often pretended not to care now, only he himself might truly know what he felt inside.
Dust everywhere, and the ground itself was uneven. It was as though heaven and earth had not yet had time to fill this hollow space.
A dense clash of impacts rang out, only to see countless spear-arrows blasting against the Black Tortoise breastplate without leaving so much as a scratch. Mo Wu, controlling the Mo family temple, was both shocked and furious; the divine beast Black Tortoise was actually so terrifying.
But how was this thing to be used?
I held it in my hands, unable to put it down, and with a thread of hope I asked Grandmother for guidance. Her answer was entirely as I had expected: she had said before that she had never touched the thing, and naturally did not know either; I would have to figure it out on my own.
On June 12, Yeltsin was elected President of the Russian Federation. What this meant for the Soviet Union needed no explanation. Joseph began making political preparations for the dissolution of the Soviet state.
After all, Shui Xin’s voice had plenty of confidence. She did not sound coerced. If that was the case, then hiring a Foundation Establishment cultivator suggested that the other party was likely no ordinary person. However… there was another question.
At that moment, on the far end of the city wall, Leng Xuan stood quietly watching the battle between the two sides. When he saw the corpse slave leading the army of corpse-men withdraw, he could not help but feel curious.
It could be said that this commercial was not only grand in scale, but also highly watchable, and to a certain extent it described Lu Qier’s rise to fame. Inspirational, and full of visual impact.
However, when Zhao Peng saw Jin Ling at the training grounds and witnessed the blade aura unleashed by his demonstration of the Diamond Claw, as well as hearing his command and coordination, he willingly took the position of deputy captain and returned the captaincy to Jin Ling.
Fukecheng drew his sword again. “I’ll kill him!” No sooner had he spoken than Jin Ling was seen leaning on a branch, swaying slightly as he walked in.
Taking advantage of this moment, Tiansheng leaped up. His body split into two in an instant, and with a flash of swift spiritual movement he charged straight at Niu Meng across from him.
“Soul Transfer!”
Tiansheng controlled his soul power, guiding Fan Joude’s spirit back into the Snow Ape King’s body. Only after its soul had stabilized did he slowly draw his power back.
With a dragon’s roar, the pillar of light rapidly transformed into a colossal thunder dragon, lifting its head to the sky in furious bellow. Coiling its body, the thunder dragon fixed upon the position of the Life Gate and waited, gathering strength. Then, with a piercing cry, like an arrow loosed from a bowstring, it shot toward the gate in a blinding streak.
Beside him, Cao Zhang laughed. “He must be afraid of Father and this two-hundred-thousand-man army. I don’t think he would dare—” Before he could finish, Cao Cao shot him a fierce glare, and he clamped his mouth shut at once.
Tiansheng folded his hands behind his back, quietly savoring the singular stillness of the starry sky. With a flick of his wrist, he produced a jade flute and brought it to his lips. A gentle, graceful melody rose slowly, serene and soothing, and Tiansheng sank into his own tranquil state of mind.
No one knew how long had passed before their “guide” finally reached the end of this stretch of road and turned back to begin the next journey. Such a painful journey—naturally, none of them wished to endure it again.
