Chapter Ninety-Two: The Crimson-Eyed Beauty in the Warehouse…
The arrival was swift indeed.
In scarcely an instant, after the black-haired girl with crimson eyes softly whispered a single word of execution, the first guard’s throat burst in an unstoppable spray of blood. Almost at the same time, the towering armored man hurled his long weapon through another guard’s chest, and the last one turned to flee in terror—only to have his head pierced the moment he took his first step. The culprit was the twin-tailed girl standing on the metal wires overhead, pistol in hand.
“They wiped them all out in one go. They’re strong... We have to protect Lady Aria at least. Let’s go, Quick. We must protect Lady Aria.” Tazumi turned and ran deeper down the corridor.
Quick smiled faintly and followed.
Along the way, the two came upon a blond woman cleaved cleanly in two at the waist, blood splashed everywhere. The woman still clutched a diary in her hands, her face frozen in terror.
After a brief hesitation, Tazumi did not stop. What worried him most now was Lady Aria, the kind woman who had helped him. He prayed nothing had happened to her.
Following the trail, Tazumi and Quick finally caught up to Aria, who was being pulled forward by a guard toward a building ahead.
This was one of the places the guards would not allow anyone to enter during the day. Quick studied the hidden structure among the trees with interest.
“Found you, Lady Aria. Are you all right?”
“It’s Tazumi! Good, you’re here. We need to take shelter in the warehouse. As long as we hold out until the security troops arrive, we can keep the young lady safe. For now, you will be the one to hold them back.” The guard wore a mask, so his voice sounded somewhat muffled.
“That’s too much to ask of me,” Tazumi said awkwardly, startled.
Whoosh. The sound of something cutting through the air, the rustle of clothing, and the thud of something hitting the ground made Tazumi freeze.
Quick turned around and saw the black-haired girl with crimson eyes. Her long blade was already drawn in her right hand, and the cold killing intent in those red eyes slowly lifted to regard them.
“Damn it. If that’s how it is, then we have no choice. Quick, let’s attack her from both sides.” Tazumi drew the broad sword from his back and aimed it solemnly at the crimson-eyed girl.
“No.”
Quick silently stepped aside.
“Huh—?” Tazumi turned in shock.
“Quick, have you forgotten how Lady Aria helped you on the street? You ungrateful wretch.”
On the other side, the crimson-eyed youth was already charging in with his blade.
“Damn it.” Tazumi gritted his teeth, staring hard at the crimson-eyed girl rushing closer and closer.
The moment her feet landed, the girl with crimson eyes had already stepped onto Tazumi’s head and kicked off violently, dashing toward Aria and the guard.
Tazumi steadied himself and turned back in astonishment.
“Damn it.”
The instant she landed, the guard had already raised his submachine gun and begun firing. Yet the crimson-eyed girl moved in an S-shaped path, slipping past the bullets with ease, and in the space of just a few breaths she had reached the guard.
Execution.
The crimson-eyed youth’s expression did not change, but it seemed as though those two words flashed through his eyes.
The long blade swept horizontally without mercy. Blood flew everywhere as the guard was severed cleanly at the waist, not a single drop splashing onto the crimson-eyed girl.
Lady Aria backed away in terror, staring at the murderer drawing nearer and nearer. At the same instant she retreated, something seemed to catch her foot, or perhaps her legs simply gave out; she collapsed to the ground. All she could do was look up with fear-stricken eyes at the crimson pupils beneath the blood moon.
The blood-hued figure of the crimson-eyed girl raised her right hand high. Her long blade reflected the same blood-red radiance.
“Execution,” the girl said calmly.
“Stop!”
Tazumi finally arrived and forced the crimson-eyed girl back with a single sword strike.
“You are not the target. There is no need to kill you,” the girl said evenly, looking at Tazumi.
“But you intend to kill Lady Aria, don’t you?” Tazumi asked coldly, standing in front of Aria.
“Yes,” she nodded slightly.
“Hm?” Tazumi was a little thrown off by the girl’s answer.
“Anyone who stands in my way shall be cut down,” said the crimson-eyed girl, indifferent.
“Even so, I can’t run away. I’m not like that ungrateful bastard over there.”
“I see. Then I’ll have to execute you too.” She leveled her blade and prepared to strike.
“That Akame is rare indeed—she hasn’t even killed her opponent yet. Huh? Those two seem to be...” The wild, mature woman shook her head and sighed, then fell into thought.
Tazumi’s gaze was resolute. After a brief standoff with the expressionless Akame, the two charged at once. They exchanged only one hard clash before Akame’s second move landed: a kick to Tazumi’s back. Driven forward by the force, Tazumi was no longer able to evade the third blade, the fatal strike aimed straight at his heart.
Clang.
A metallic crash rang out. That deadly third strike was blocked—not by Tazumi, but by Quick, who had stood by until then and now finally intervened.
For this simple country boy, he rather approved of him.
“You’re not the target either. Do you want to interfere?” The crimson-eyed girl stared at Quick with great seriousness. The speed of his approach just now was anything but ordinary.
“No. I just don’t want to see this innocent boy die here in such a muddled way,” Quick said with a smile, pressing his diamond blade against her long sword.
“Then I’ll execute you both.”
“Wait. You’re after money, right? Let this lady go. This isn’t war—don’t kill innocent people!”
While Tazumi was speaking, the crimson-eyed girl had already knocked Quick’s diamond sword aside and slashed in.
“Hey, hey. You’re really not taking me seriously at all. I’m the one giving you trouble here.”
Quick once again blocked her path.
“Wait.” Before the crimson-eyed girl could charge again, the wild woman reached out with a claw and seized the back of her collar.
“What are you doing?” The girl with crimson eyes glanced sideways toward the rear.
“That boy isn’t simple, and the other one has some debt of gratitude toward me. Let me handle this.”
“Oh, you’re the woman who tricked my money away from me. Give it back.” Tazumi glared at the wild woman.
“You say they’re innocent? Then take a look inside this warehouse, and you’ll know whether they are or not.”
Lady Aria shuddered all over and lowered her head.
Passing the others, the wild woman kicked the warehouse door open.
“What... is this?” the tense Tazumi, who had followed behind her, asked dumbly.
What filled the warehouse was naturally not supplies, but people—one by one, dead people, corpses mutilated beyond recognition by instruments of torture.
There were men and women among them, though the poor light and ruined faces made it impossible to tell young from old. Only their unwilling, struggling, hate-filled eyes remained wide open, for they... died with their eyes unclosed.
Akame seeks votes for recommendations, or she’ll execute you too.
