Chapter Eighty-Two: The Resentful Infant Escapes Death and Turns Against Its Own

“What?” The woman with silver hair and the beautiful young lady exclaimed in unison. A baby girl with the strength of a Core Formation cultivator, yet not a cultivator herself? If she were not an immortal cultivator or a demonic practitioner, that might still be understandable. But not being a cultivator at all meant she had never practiced any cultivation techniques—her power was entirely innate. She was a child favored by the heavens, a being born with a gift.
“Die!” The answer came in the form of Misaka Mikoto’s sharp scream.
Qi was already in contact with the black vengeful infant, his Diamond Thunder Fist striking with full force at the infant’s twisted, ferocious head, without any flourish or hesitation.
The vengeful infant responded just as simply. It opened its mouth, revealing sharp teeth like those of a giant-headed infant, and bit down directly on the thunder-wreathed diamond fist.
A flash of silver glinted in Qi’s eyes, and his fist landed first, smashing into the eye overflowing with endless resentment. The vengeful infant shrieked and staggered back a few steps, but then, as if nothing had happened, it lunged again, emitting a strange, wavering cry—half laughter, half weeping—aimed straight at Qi’s spiritual sea.
The spiritual attack of a Core Formation creature had already reached the limits of Qi’s defense. In just three seconds, his spiritual sea was shattered by the bizarre soundwaves.
The vengeful infant, still laughing eerily, pounced on Qi’s corpse. This body, after all, was a potent lure for it.
Unfortunately, even with his spiritual sea shattered, Qi could regenerate it in a short time. This was the power of the main world, the ultimate contest of life and death, and with Qi’s flawless control of his body, he had achieved near immortality.
So the corpse the infant thought it saw did not truly exist. And as the vengeful infant pounced again, Qi realized that ordinary attacks would not work on it. That’s why—“Heaven’s Return!”
Within the blue-violet sea of lightning, a silver-white sphere suddenly emerged, enveloping the vengeful infant within.
Piercing screams spilled out intermittently, like the halting playback of a damaged recording.
In the first breath, the silver sphere of Heaven’s Return vibrated violently, as if a fierce beast captured in a cage was struggling with all its might.
By the second breath, the struggle abruptly ceased; the silver sphere fell silent as death.
After three breaths, like a trapped animal gathering strength for one final desperate attempt, the Heaven’s Return sphere quaked even more violently. In the blink of an eye, the vengeful infant thrust its pitch-black, grotesquely twisted head out of the silver sphere, followed by its body. Once it fully escaped, the silver sphere vanished.
Qi sighed in resignation. This was the first enemy to escape alive from the silver sphere of Heaven’s Return. The gulf in power was simply too great. Yet the vengeful infant had not emerged unscathed; strange grayish-white stripes of varying shades now marred its body. Unlike the ferocity of a white tiger, these stripes exuded a deadly pallor.

The vengeful infant’s hateful eyes locked onto Qi’s, the venom in its gaze seeming to want to burn him to ash. Qi only sneered and met its gaze. “If you have any tricks left, use them. If not, surrender and enter the cycle of reincarnation.”
“Yaaah—!” The vengeful infant shrieked, and once again, Qi’s spiritual sea was shattered. Gritting his teeth, he closed the distance, ready to unleash the silver Heaven’s Return once more.
But the vengeful infant, unwilling, turned to flee. Its strength was greatly suppressed within the sea of lightning. If it got caught by that strange technique again, it might never escape.
“How is this possible? You actually managed to injure the vengeful infant—are you hiding your true cultivation?” The voice of the giant-headed infant echoed from the sky once more.
“Show yourself! I’ll kill you!” Misaka Mikoto roared in fury when the giant-headed infant refused to appear.
“Kekekeke, little girl, right now I’d love nothing more than to devour you, torment you, and imprison your resentful soul in my Ten Thousand Infant Soul Banner as the main soul. With that, even late-stage Core Formation cultivators would be no match for me. Now that ninety percent of the Nascent Soul cultivators have left the Southern Domain, I have nothing to fear. Heheheh…”
“If you won’t come out, then I’ll force you out!” In the next moment, a super electromagnetic cannon shot straight up, piercing the heavens and striking the Ten Thousand Infant Soul Banner. The result was like a sheet of cloth struck by a speeding fist; it caved in for tens of thousands of meters before floating gently back, completely unharmed.
“The true descent of lightning.”
Around the Ten Thousand Infant Soul Banner, a layer of dark clouds began to gather, with lightning flickering through them like dragons, sometimes visible, sometimes hidden. Below, Misaka Mikoto, enveloped in the vast sea of lightning, soared toward the thunderclouds in the sky.
“She can actually summon the natural lightning between heaven and earth! Incredible. Though lightning from the mortal realm lacks the will of a cultivator and is not as powerful as tribulation lightning, the purer the lightning, the greater its restraint on demonic arts.” This baby cannot be allowed to live. The last sentence was a thought in the mind of the seductive woman.
Under the combined assault of thunderclouds and the sea of lightning, the gray-black resentment of the Ten Thousand Infant Soul Banner was rapidly dissipating. The vengeful infant tried to interfere but was blocked by Qi, leaving it only able to shriek in rage, trying to shatter Qi’s spiritual sea.
As for Misaka Mikoto, perhaps because she was too far away, or the thunder was gradually wearing it down, the shrieking spiritual attack had no effect on her at all.
As the Soul Banner seemed on the verge of collapse, the giant-headed infant’s cry rang out: “No! He’s broken the formation and escaped!”
“Young Lord, are you alright? I’m sorry for arriving so late.” As the voice fell, the elegant young man at the peak of early Core Formation stage from the Demon Sect appeared beneath the sea of lightning.

“Mr. Shang, act quickly! The enemy is at the end of their strength. With just a few more assaults, they’ll be defeated!” The seductive woman’s voice was urgent, quivering ever so slightly with anxiety.
“Yes, Young Lord.” The elegant man smiled. “Miss, would you kindly allow me to join in bringing down our foe?”
At his words, a passage opened through the sea of lightning, leading straight to the Ten Thousand Infant Soul Banner in the sky. Without hesitation, the elegant man flew up the passage and began his so-called fierce assault at the summit.
“I’ll fight you all to the end!” A sharp voice came from above the elegant man. In an instant, a baby’s skull shot out from the Soul Banner and exploded in front of him without warning.
The massive shockwave blasted outward, sending the elegant man flying. With rare kindness, Misaka Mikoto quickly opened a thunder-free corridor for him.
But just as the elegant man was thrown back, a golden beam of light shot straight at the unsuspecting Misaka Mikoto.
The scene caught Misaka Mikoto completely off guard. She had just cleared a path for him, and yet he attacked her.
It was sudden and without warning, but not unexpected. Except for Misaka Mikoto, the seductive woman, the silver-haired lady, and even Qi had all been prepared for this.
After all, this was a hastily assembled group, with underlying grudges among them. It was only natural for someone to betray the others when the enemy was about to be defeated.
From the angle at which the elegant man was blasted back, Qi had already steeled himself. In a flash, he leapt in front of Misaka Mikoto, blocking the attack before it could reach her.
