“An enemy attack?” Hearing the commotion, Qi emerged from meditation. His spiritual sense swept outward, and he immediately grasped the situation. Although there were many enemies, none of them were particularly powerful. Still, their orderly, coordinated assault suggested that someone nearby was directing them.

Qi flew straight into the sky and soon spotted several strange figures on a distant mountain peak. One had an extremely long nose, another possessed enormous ears, and a third seemed to have undergone some kind of ocular modification. At the center stood a researcher in a white coat and spectacles.

So Esdeath had not come personally. In that case, he might as well sit back and enjoy the show. Not every stray cat or dog was worth dealing with himself.

“It seems Akame has been caught up with the only formidable modified human. He has more than enough offense, but his defense is lacking; he is no match for her. Lubbock is fine as well. They are nothing but cannon fodder.”

Qi concealed his entire presence, sat atop the roof, and watched the battle below.

“Hmm? What is that?”

Qi suddenly spotted the Imperial Arms once wielded by Sheele.

When you wanted something, the enemy seemed determined to deliver it straight to your door. The man in the white coat must be one of the Jaegers; otherwise, he could never have obtained an Imperial Arms awarded by Esdeath as a prize.

Qi made no move to seize the weapon, because Sheele had already finished off every last soldier surrounding her.

“Tch. Why hasn’t the armored brat shown up? I’ve been waiting for him for ages.”

The tall man, whose appearance marked him unmistakably as a career soldier, carried the giant scissors on his back and grinned confidently.

“You don’t need to know. Anyone who invades our base must die.”

Sheele shook the blood from the kitchen knife in her hand, then stared blankly at the enormous scissors behind him.

“Looks like you recognize these Imperial Arms, All Things Severed. In that case, I’ll let them be the instrument of your death. Remember this name—Jasango!”

The hulking soldier drew the giant scissors from his back and charged toward Sheele with a savage grin.

“Give them back to me!”

Sheele raised her kitchen knife and rushed forward as well. In an instant, the scissors sliced her blade in half and tore through her dress.

“Hahaha! These Imperial Arms can cut through anything in the world. Just stand still and let yourself be split in two!”

Jasango swung the giant scissors and charged again.

Halfway there, however, a beam of light blocked his path. Mine stepped out from the side.

“That blade isn’t yours. You have no right to possess it. And do you even know how painful it is to be cut in half?”

“The outcome is more or less decided. It seems there’s no need for me to enter the stage.”

With a laugh, Qi used his spiritual sense to brew himself a cup of black tea and send it into his hand. He sipped tea while calmly watching the slaughter below.

“Hm? Something is approaching from the sky.”

Sensing the oppressive presence, Qi raised his head toward the distant horizon. His eyes transformed into high-powered telescopes.

Ten thousand meters away, Najenda stood atop a gigantic flying danger beast, gazing toward the base.

“As expected of the Imperial Arms of divination praised by headquarters. It predicted misfortune at the base, and it was right. It failed to include little Qi in the divination, though. Still, returning at once was the correct decision. As long as that boy is on the roof drinking tea, things cannot be too bad.”

She then turned to look at the two crouching figures behind her. Their faces were hidden beneath their hoods.

“They are showing themselves sooner than expected. I may as well take this opportunity to see what our new companions can do.”

“So the boss is back, and she brought two new companions?” Qi took a sip of tea and looked down at the scene below. “I wonder whether they’ll fit in.”

Because their opponent was a modified human with no heart, Akame could only kill him by striking again and again, hacking apart the man who had neglected his defenses. She and Lubbock soon emerged outside.

With Sheele’s assistance, Mine’s final shot directly vaporized their opponent. The attack also drew the attention of the man who had initially ambushed Leone, for it left Mine’s defenses weak from behind.

The man, who had been hiding in the bushes, suddenly leapt high into the air and landed above Mine, whose vigilance had slackened. Just as he was about to descend, a nimble yellow figure sprang from the side and kicked him squarely in the face, sending him flying.

“How dare you do that, you bastard! You suddenly threw a blade at me and knocked me unconscious for a moment!”

Leone rubbed her joints until they cracked, then lifted the man from the ground and threatened him viciously. He had attacked her with a blade hidden in the sole of his shoe.

Enraged once more, Leone killed him instantly.

“Is everyone all right?”

Akame, still wearing her pajamas, ran out of the house.

“Now everyone except little Qi is here. Sheele even unexpectedly recovered her own Imperial Arms, so our combat strength has increased.”

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Dozens more soldiers burst from the forest and surrounded the five of them.

“The report said that woman had been killed by Seryu. Yet she has appeared completely unharmed. And now their reinforcements have arrived. It seems I’ll have to use one of my trump cards.”

“There are still so many enemies? And is that huge thing in the sky an enemy too?”

Leone and the other four stood back-to-back in a circle.

“That should be nearly all of them. They look like nothing but cannon fodder, so there’s no need to worry.”

Lubbock toyed with his Imperial Arms.

Mine took out a device that, to Qi, looked much like the combat-power tester he had used in the past, and fitted it over her left eye.

“That’s the boss. Our reinforcements have arrived.”

“Actually, we probably didn’t need reinforcements. The enemies have already been nearly wiped out, and little Qi is somewhere nearby watching over us.”

“Indeed. But—what’s happening? My body... I can’t move.”

Mine’s expression suddenly changed, and she collapsed, unable to remain standing.

Like a signal, her four companions also fell one after another. Not a single one escaped.

“Hahahaha! This is my first trump card, my personally developed super-powerful anesthetic! My modified humans, capture these specimens alive!”

Qi raised his brows slightly. He had not expected the entire Night Raid to be brought down by something like this.

Just as the soldiers moved forward to seize them, four walls of bone surged from the ground, blocking their advance.

Boom!

A figure descended from the sky and slammed heavily into the earth, sending clouds of dust billowing into the air.

“Boss, why did you come back so quickly? Didn’t you say you would be gone for another two days?”

Fang Yuan floated through the air and stopped in front of Najenda.

“Headquarters used the divination Imperial Arms and discovered that the base was in danger, so I brought our new companions, who had just arrived at headquarters, back with me.”

“That mount is really cool. Maybe I’ll capture one and ride it around someday.”

Qi smiled as he spoke.

“Are you the legendary all-purpose man, Mr. Qi, the Child of Miracles?”

A clear, curious voice came from one of the black-robed figures behind Najenda.

“I’m not sure what this ‘Child of Miracles’ business is about, but I am indeed the all-purpose man. My name is Qi. Since you’re our new companion, why don’t you introduce yourself?”

“Oh, oh, Sheele’s revival really has brought an increase in recommendation votes. Three chapters tomorrow.”
