Volume Two: The Appearance of the Nine Provinces Map, Entering the Spirit Void Chapter 138: Mysterious Yin Inversion
Chen Yu and the others felt as though they had heard a sound from the netherworld, the soul-snatching call of vicious ghosts.
Everyone's body shrank involuntarily as they looked around in terror. The three cultivators who had already been severely injured by the Moon Wolves cried out in panic, their expressions distorted as they instinctively screamed and tried to flee outward.
However, before the three of them could take a few steps, their bodies suddenly froze in place. Their hands frantically clawed at their own throats in terror, as if they were being choked by something invisible and struggling to break free.
Their faces turned so pale that they were barely able to breathe. In just a short moment, their entire bodies slumped limply to the ground.
"What on earth is going on?" Xiao Xiang asked Chen Yu in a voice lost to shock. Yet no one answered him.
None of the four dared to act rashly, remaining on tense guard against their surroundings.
"The physical power of these Moon Wolf demons has vanished," Chen Yu suddenly said at that moment.
"Hmph, they're dead, the power of their flesh naturally disperses—" Xiao Xiang was just about to scold Chen Yu when he suddenly sensed that something was amiss and stopped himself.
The other three quickly walked over as well, inspecting the corpse of the Moon Wolf beside Chen Yu.
"It really has vanished," the three said in heavy tones.
Chen Yu seemed to realize something as well, walking quickly toward the corpses of the three cultivators. Liu Yue'er and the others reacted as well and immediately followed.
Sure enough, it was just as Chen Yu had thought.
"This Crescent Peak is absorbing their power," Chen Yu said casually as he slipped the three cultivators' treasures into his robes.
The other three frowned, unsure whether to despise Chen Yu's shamelessness or to feel terrified by the eerie nature of Crescent Peak.
"Could it be that all of us have been plotted against?" Xiao Xiang said with a gloomy expression.
"You mean the one plotting all of this is True Lord Xuyang?" Zhu Yi said.
"True Lord Xuyang?" Liu Yue'er's expression shifted in shock, and she said, "That is not entirely impossible."
"Liu Yue'er, have you thought of something?" Zhu Yi perceived it instantly and hastily asked, "If you truly know something, please speak. The current situation is far too unusual, and with your strength alone, I'm afraid you won't be able to handle it."
Liu Yue'er was quite displeased with Zhu Yi's near-threatening tone, but what the other said was indeed reasonable. Thus, she voiced her suspicion: "I suspect that True Lord Xuyang has set up a Dark Yin Inversion Array here."
"A Dark Yin Inversion Array? What kind of array is that?" After all, Xiao Xiang was merely a rogue cultivator. Though he possessed some natural talent, his knowledge simply could not compare to that of a disciple from a major sect like Liu Yue'er.
"It is rumored to be an array mastered by True Lord Xuyang. Dark Yin Inversion means the reversal of Yin and Yang, the rotation of the sun and moon..." At this point, Liu Yue'er suddenly started in alarm and said, "I understand now. True Lord Xuyang intends to use this Dark Yin Inversion Array to force the Half-Moon Purple Lotus to ripen. We have all been deceived by him."
"What do you mean?" Chen Yu asked, equally perplexed.
"The Moon Wolves absorb the power of Greater Yin, while we cultivators represent Yang. With Yin and Yang harmonizing, the Half-Moon Purple Lotus can naturally grow faster. He is using our vital blood to cultivate the Half-Moon Purple Lotus..."
"Does that mean if we stop fighting each other, there won't be any problems?" Xiao Xiang asked tentatively.
"While that may be true, the Dark Yin Inversion Array is far from that simple," Liu Yue'er said in a heavy tone. "When Yin and Yang are inverted, a hundred ghosts run rampant."
Upon hearing this, the three of them sharply drew in a breath of cold air. Recalling the recent fate of the three cultivators, their minds inevitably tightened.
"Heh-haha... As expected of a disciple of the Cliff Sword Temple, you truly possess a bit of insight." Just at that moment, a gloomy, sneering voice echoed across Crescent Peak.
"This... is True Lord Xuyang." Xiao Xiang had once met True Lord Xuyang, so he recognized his voice immediately.
"True Lord Xuyang, you dare commit such a rebellious act here, are you not afraid of reckoning from my Cliff Sword Temple?" Liu Yue'er said in a deep voice.
"Haha... But who would know that I was the one who killed you?" True Lord Xuyang said dismissively. "You merely died beneath the fangs of the Moon Wolf demons."
"This place is not suited for a long stay; we should leave," Chen Yu tried to sense True Lord Xuyang's location, but found nothing.
The four of them had now cast aside their grievances, as none of them wanted to die here.
"You still want to flee now? That is wishful thinking. Let you experience the might of my Dark Yin Inversion Array," True Lord Xuyang said leisurely. In his eyes, Chen Yu and the others had already become birds in a cage with nowhere to run.
No sooner had Chen Yu and the others walked far than Crescent Peak underwent a drastic change. Frigid, icy Qi surged out from the mountain peak, causing the air to frost over. The sky turned entirely crimson, as if they had arrived in the freezing hell of Avici.
A wave of chill rushed directly toward the four of them, not only eroding their bodies. Their Dharmic powers felt as though they were being frozen, growing sluggish. Next, a wave of dizziness surged up, nearly causing them to collapse to the ground. Following that, drowsiness permeated their senses, making it feel as if their souls were about to tear away from their flesh.
"Not good... Wake up, hurry up and wake up..." The four of them started violently, immediately circulating their cultivation arts to resist this force.
"Heh-haha... Don't bother making a dying struggle. With cultivation bases that haven't even reached the Yin-Yang Realm, don't harbor vain thoughts of escaping from my hands," True Lord Xuyang said with contempt.
"What should we do? What do we do now?" Xiao Xiang had completely lost his composure, muttering in panicked terror.
Similarly, Zhu Yi and Liu Yue'er were in no better shape.
"Liu Yue'er, can you still deploy your Departing Flood Dragon Cage?" Chen Yu suddenly asked at this moment.
"We don't even know where True Lord Xuyang is, what use would it be even if I could deploy it?" Liu Yue'er shouted discontentedly.
"What if I said I know where he is?" Chen Yu said calmly. Earlier, he hadn't just been running for the sake of fleeing; he had intended to use the opportunity to lure True Lord Xuyang into making a move and thereby sense the opponent's position.
"You know?" Not only Liu Yue'er, but both Zhu Yi and Xiao Xiang turned to look at Chen Yu.
"Hmph, even if we know True Lord Xuyang's location, so what? He is a cultivator of the Yin-Yang Realm, how could we possibly resist him?" Xiao Xiang said in a deep voice.
Liu Yue'er and Zhu Yi both shook their heads in agreement.
"We have no way out now. Our only chance of survival is to kill True Lord Xuyang. Otherwise, we can only wait here to die," Chen Yu said.
Before the three could respond to Chen Yu, True Lord Xuyang spoke up, "Boy, your idea is not bad, so I'll wait for you to come find me. Of course, provided that you still have your life to live."
The moment his voice fell, True Lord Xuyang's attack unfolded.
Hazy, illusory figures crawled out from Crescent Peak, pouncing toward Chen Yu and the others. These ghostly entities had distorted faces; some bared their fangs and brandished their claws; some had green skin and red eyes; some had skin as pale as snow; others had numerous holes on their bodies from which blood flowed... They emitted a strong, foul stench, filling one with dread.
