Chapter 118: Three Sages' Cloud, Rocket Team
“Gardevoir, attack! Lunatone, defend.”
Though he knew it wasn’t the right moment, Cheng Cheng couldn’t help but glance at the data on Tornadus.
Pokémon: Tornadus
Type: Flying
Level: 84
Combat Power: 15,667
Skills: Uproar, Scary Face, Hurricane, Swagger, Bite, Revenge, Air Slash, Psychic, Agility, Energy Ball, Air Cutter, Crunch, Tailwind, Rain Dance, Storm, Dark Pulse, Cross Chop.
This Tornadus was indeed formidable. Even combined, Cheng Cheng and Muzi wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Muzi, are you ready?”
“Of course. I want to see just how powerful a legendary Pokémon really is.”
“Tornadus!”
Tornadus unleashed Wind Blades—dozens of razor-sharp gusts surged toward Cheng Cheng and Muzi.
“Gardevoir, use Shadow Ball! Lunatone, use Rock Throw!”
“Dragonite, use Hurricane!”
The opposing forces collided, canceling each other out. The shockwave from the impact pushed both Cheng Cheng and Muzi back several steps.
“This is way too strong, Muzi. Be careful.”
“No problem.”
Muzi swiftly jumped onto Dragonite’s back, while Cheng Cheng had Lunatone lift him into the air. Since the adversary held the aerial advantage, they couldn’t afford to lose theirs.
“Tornadus!”
Tornadus fired seven Shadow Balls at once. The sheer number was overwhelming—there was no way to block them all.
“Gardevoir, Teleport!”
“Lunatone, use Protect!”
“Dragonite, dodge!”
Gardevoir teleported away instantly. Dragonite dodged at great speed. Lunatone managed to block one Shadow Ball, but even that single hit drained half its stamina.
Damn, this is too strong. If this keeps up, we’re doomed. Hopefully Ash’s side will hurry.
“Come out, Altaria.”
Muzi released Altaria and mounted her, freeing Dragonite to fight without burden.
“Muzi.”
“What’s up? Is that your farewell speech?”
“No way. Today, I’ll show you Gardevoir’s true strength.”
“Is that so? I’m looking forward to it.”
“Gardevoir.”
“Gaaaar!”
Gardevoir understood Cheng Cheng’s intent the moment she heard his voice. Together, they closed their eyes, linking their psychic energies.
The necklace around Gardevoir’s neck and the bracelet on Cheng Cheng’s wrist began to glow, connecting their powers.
“Gardevoir, Mega Evolve!”
“Gaaaar!”
A flash of radiant colors enveloped Gardevoir, transforming her. Although her type remained unchanged, her hair shortened, the fin-like horns on her chest grew larger, and the spike-like markings on her face lengthened. Mega Evolution enhanced all her stats, especially her Fairy attributes. After Mega Evolution, Gardevoir was a dragon-slaying master—though this battle was against a Flying-type Pokémon.
“This is evolution,” Muzi exclaimed in surprise. She hadn’t expected Gardevoir to be capable of further transformation.
“Muzi, don’t lose so easily.”
“The one who will lose is you.”
“Dragonite, use Dragon Rage!”
“Gardevoir, Shadow Ball!”
Dragon Rage and Shadow Ball struck simultaneously. Tornadus blocked the attacks but was wounded, and anger began to flare within it.
“Tornadus!”
Tornadus’s hands glowed as it prepared its Psychic power, striking both Gardevoir and Dragonite.
“Gardevoir, Protect!”
“Dragonite, Protect as well!”
Both Pokémon shielded themselves from the Psychic blast. Though they managed to withstand the attack, the force slammed them into the ground, rendering them unable to continue fighting.
“Gardevoir!”
“Dragonite!”
Cheng Cheng and Muzi rushed to their Pokémon’s sides. Gardevoir reverted to her original form.
“Come back, Gardevoir. Thank you for your effort.”
“Dragonite, rest well.”
They recalled their Pokémon.
“Cheng Cheng, what now?” Muzi asked.
Cheng Cheng gazed at the raging Tornadus in the sky, realizing they had gotten in over their heads. He touched the necklace around his neck.
Suddenly, Cheng Cheng sensed another powerful force emerging elsewhere.
“Don’t worry.”
Without acknowledging Cheng Cheng and Muzi, Tornadus flew off toward the source of the other energy.
Both breathed a sigh of relief.
“Cheng Cheng, what’s going on? Why did Tornadus leave?”
“Because its opponent has arrived.”
“You mean Thundurus has come here too?”
“Seems so. Let’s hurry.”
Cheng Cheng and Muzi ran in Tornadus’s direction and soon found Ash, his companions, and Mr. Youte.
“Ash, are you all right?”
“We’re fine. Cheng Cheng, how about you?”
“We’re okay, though our Pokémon took some damage. I didn’t expect Thundurus to show up as well.”
“Apparently, someone destroyed the stone monuments of Tornadus and Thundurus. That’s why the two Pokémon came to the island,” Ash explained.
Cheng Cheng sensed three familiar presences in a corner but chose to focus on the battle between the legendary Pokémon instead.
Taking the opportunity, Cheng Cheng checked Thundurus’s data.
Pokémon: Thundurus
Type: Flying, Electric
Level: 84
Combat Power: 15,682
Skills: Uproar, Scary Face, Thunder Shock, Swagger, Bite, Revenge, Shock Wave, Protect, Agility, Discharge, Crunch, Charge, Trick, Thunder, Dark Pulse, Cross Chop, Tackle.
The combat powers of Tornadus and Thundurus were nearly equal; this would likely be a stalemate.
Watching the battle, Cheng Cheng realized that Tornadus hadn’t yet unleashed its full strength.
The shockwaves from their fight were immense, forcing the group to keep a safe distance to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
“This can’t go on. The island will be destroyed if these two keep fighting like this,” Mr. Youte said with concern.
“So what do we do now?” Muzi asked.
“There is only one way: summon Landorus.”
“Summon Landorus?”
“Yes. According to legend, these two were driven away by Landorus. We must call upon Landorus again.”
“How do we summon it?”
“Wait here. I’ll get something.”
Mr. Youte hurried away and soon returned with four orbs.
Meanwhile, the fight between Thundurus and Tornadus raged on, leaving much of the island devastated.
“All right, now I need a shrine maiden.”
“A shrine maiden?”
“Yes. In the legend, the shrine maiden communicated with Landorus to summon it.”
“That’s unnecessary. Just give me the orbs,” Cheng Cheng said.
He took the four orbs from Mr. Youte and infused them with his psychic energy. Suddenly, Cheng Cheng sensed the presence of another Pokémon.
He explained the situation to it, and soon a Pokémon appeared before the group.
“Landorus! You actually summoned it. Are you the shrine maiden?” Mr. Youte asked.
Cheng Cheng wanted to groan.
“No, I’m not a shrine maiden. I merely used these four orbs to communicate with Landorus.”
“That’s the same thing,” Mr. Youte said.
Cheng Cheng decided not to argue further.
Landorus saw the aerial battle and flew directly over.
It tried to reason with the two Pokémon, but they wouldn’t listen and attacked Landorus instead.
Previously, Landorus had driven them away. Now, they united against it.
Knowing persuasion was futile, Landorus fought back. The battle was evenly matched, but since both Thundurus and Tornadus were already weakened, Landorus held the advantage.
Cheng Cheng was somewhat surprised to see Landorus gaining the upper hand. He looked at Landorus’s data.
Pokémon: Landorus
Type: Flying, Ground
Level: 88
Combat Power: 17,021
Skills: Block, Mud Shot, Rock Tomb, Encore, Punishment, Bulldoze, Rollout, Psychic, Swords Dance, Earth Power, Eruption, Earthquake, Sandstorm, Fissure, Rock Throw, Cross Chop, Dragon Tail Rage.
As expected, Landorus was stronger than both Tornadus and Thundurus, so it was natural for it to hold its own against the two combined.
Suddenly, beams of light shone down on the three battling Pokémon. The beams converged, forming a luminous barrier that trapped them inside.
“What is this?” everyone wondered.
“I heard you say, ‘What is this?’ so I came at the speed of light,” a voice said.
“Wind, Earth, Sky—send danger throughout the world. Spread this crisis across the universe. Whether angel or demon, anyone who hears that name will tremble at the enchanting sound: Jessie, James, and Meowth. We are the stars of this era. We are the invincible Team Rocket!”
“Team Rocket, it’s you again. You’re everywhere!” Cheng Cheng exclaimed.
The three presences he had sensed earlier were Team Rocket. They had grown stronger and now carried a certain presence.
“Hmph, our original target was these three legendary Pokémon. Now that all three have gathered, Team Rocket will take them all.”
“You destroyed the stone monuments of Tornadus and Thundurus?” Cheng Cheng asked.
“That’s right. To gather all three, we destroyed both monuments and used you to summon Landorus. Now, all three are ours.”
Cheng Cheng realized the situation was more complicated than he thought. He touched his necklace once more.
