Chapter 106: Saber’s Exit
Under the raging storm unleashed by the Holy Sword, Angra Mainyu’s body began to crumble relentlessly. Filled with fury, he glared at the Holy Sword wielder before him and was forced to resort to his old trick once more. From the beastly carcass, a frail figure wrapped in bandages emerged.
The corrupted, viscous flesh disintegrated continuously under Saber’s assault, yet numerous fragmented chunks of flesh melded into the figure, allowing him to flee down the mountain.
Saber furrowed her brow, about to extinguish the last remaining evil of this world, but paused as she turned to the figure emerging from the ruins of Mt. Enzo.
“No need to pursue. It cannot escape this place. I have already arranged for someone to handle the aftermath.”
A priest clad in solemn black attire, a golden cross swinging rhythmically around his neck, stepped aside to carve a path through the chaos and entered the battlefield.
Tozo Rin called out the newcomer’s name with surprise.
“—Kotomine.”
—
Dragging his shattered body, Angra Mainyu ran for the first time in human form.
He could already foresee that the relentless Holy Sword wielder would soon catch up and tear him to shreds.
Yet despite this, he did not wish to die.
Even with the black sludge oozing from the previous wound, the destruction wrought on this city was minimal—at most a significant disaster.
How could such a thing quell his deep-seated hatred?
He was unwilling, unwilling to perish like this! The one who should have become the beast was himself; he was the very embodiment of malice!
“You bastards have gone too far!”
As he ran, noticing no pursuers behind him, he finally allowed himself a slight breath of relief.
That feeling of survival after the calamity brought large tears streaming from his eyes.
“To be treated like this! Damn it, scum! I only killed some damned humans, destroyed a few streets at most—what wrong have I done? Ugh—”
He wept and wailed.
Though he had vague consciousness long ago, his personality was barely born from the flesh, no more than half a day old. In terms of physiological age, Angra Mainyu was genuinely an infant.
“Whatever happens, kill me! All of you, die! I will escape this place and then begin to annihilate the world!”
Wiping the tears flowing from his eyes, Angra Mainyu resolved himself.
As he glimpsed the hellfire of disaster caused by the emerging black sludge, a flicker of hope appeared in his eyes, but he lifted his head warily.
“Who’s there?”
Though he had lost the Holy Grail’s identity, this peculiar body, having taken flesh, retained strength comparable to a Servant, along with many unusual traits.
Just moments before, Angra Mainyu had indeed sensed a murderous intent directed at him.
At first, he thought it a hallucination caused by the surrounding calamities, but now the hostility drew nearer.
He was certain a pair of eyes watched him from the shadows.
“Even after shedding the Holy Grail vessel, you can still sense the killing intent in my heart? It seems I still have much to train. AsI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
