Chapter 130: Nervousness, Because You Care
"Could it be that Zhang Xin's parents have already returned, and she has tried to contact me many times?"
"If that’s the case, I must have left a terrible impression on her parents!"
Chen Xian felt a wave of anxiety as these thoughts crossed his mind. He hurriedly grabbed his charger and plugged in his phone.
*Ding, ding, ding!*
As soon as the phone powered on, a long string of notification sounds rang out. Chen Xian discovered that all these messages were from Zhang Xin—a staggering ninety-nine of them. He then opened WeChat, only to find another 99+ unread messages.
"Oh, no!" Chen Xian tapped his forehead lightly. He immediately opened the voice messages, hoping to grasp the situation before calling her back.
"Dear, what are you busy with? Do you miss me? Because I’ve been missing you!"
"Dear..."
"Dear, are you busy with work? If you have time, please call me back. I want to hear your voice."
Listening to these messages, Chen Xian felt a twinge of guilt. He really hadn't been a very good boyfriend. The earlier messages were from three days ago.
"Dear, why are you ignoring me? *Sob, sob, sob...* Did you run off with some little vixen?"
"Dear, if you don't call me back, I'm going to be so sad I'll cry!"
"Dear, my parents returned on [Date], and they’ve invited you to dinner at our house tonight. You must be on time!"
Chen Xian checked the date and couldn't help but curse, "Damn it, isn't [Date] today?!"
He immediately dialed Zhang Xin. As soon as she picked up, he said, "Dear, I am so sorry. I’ve been tied up with some important work these past few days, and my phone died. I didn't notice anything!"
"Xian, are you having an affair? Do you have another girl? Tell me the truth!" Zhang Xin’s voice sounded stern over the phone.
Chen Xian felt a jolt in his heart and quickly replied, "Dear, no, there’s no one else. Please, you have to believe me!"
"I don't believe you!"
Chen Xian said anxiously, "I swear to heaven, if—"
Before he could finish his oath, Zhang Xin’s voice softened, becoming sweet and considerate. "Dear, I won't let you say such things. If something were to happen to you, what would I do? I believe you, okay?"
Chen Xian exhaled a long breath of relief, feeling a warmth spread through his chest.
"Dear, let’s talk about the important thing. My parents are home, and they’ve invited you to dinner tonight. You need to come early—you must arrive at my house before 5:00 PM. Remember, do not, under any circumstances, be late!" Zhang Xin urged repeatedly.
Chen Xian nodded and smiled. "Mission accepted!"
He continued chatting with Zhang Xin while walking out of the house, planning to head to H City immediately after picking up the "Spirit Water" from the Ma Group.
Upon arriving at the Ma Group, Chen Xian collected forty bottles of Spirit Water. He placed fifteen into his storage ring and packed the remaining twenty-five into three suitcases: two with ten bottles each and one with five. After collecting the water, he inquired about the jade auction. Ma Tian informed him that everything was proceeding smoothly and would be held as scheduled in the second-floor hall of the Ma Group building in three days.
Once updated, Chen Xian had Ma Tian send a Rolls-Royce to take him to the Zhang residence. Since this was his first time meeting his future father-in-law and mother-in-law, appearances mattered. If he showed up the way he used to—by taxi or on foot—it wouldn't just be his own face he was losing, but Zhang Xin’s as well. He couldn't bear to see such a considerate, gentle, beautiful, and kind girl get hurt.
In the car, Chen Xian changed into a different set of designer casual wear. Although he was now powerful and his status had risen significantly, he couldn't help but feel nervous about meeting her parents for the first time. He was nervous because he cared deeply about Zhang Xin. When someone cares, they inevitably become anxious about matters involving the other person. Sitting in the back seat, Chen Xian checked his reflection in a mirror periodically to ensure his appearance was impeccable.
As time rolled by, the Rolls-Royce entered the Royal Villa District at 4:30 PM. Chen Xian called Zhang Xin to let her know he would be there in a few minutes.
At the Zhang villa, Zhang Xin hung up the phone with a smile on her beautiful face. She set aside the vegetables she was picking and headed for the door.
"Xin, dear, where are you going?" asked an elegant middle-aged woman with features somewhat similar to Zhang Xin’s. This was her mother, Ji Rushuang.
"Mom, Chen Xian is here. I’m going to the gate to greet him," Zhang Xin replied without looking back.
Ji Rushuang watched her go with a kind smile, muttering to herself, "Look at this girl; she’s practically skipping, and there’s such uncontrollable joy in her voice."
"Ma'am, it seems the young miss and that Mr. Chen have a wonderful relationship. I’ve never seen the miss so happy. I’ve met Mr. Chen; he’s a fine young man and seems like a good match for her," the housekeeper chimed in while cooking. "I truly hope they end up together."
Ji Rushuang’s lips twitched slightly, but she let out a faint sigh and remained silent.
"Ma'am, why did you sigh?" the housekeeper asked curiously.
"It’s nothing," Ji Rushuang replied.
But inside, she was worried for her daughter. Although she had heard about Chen Xian—a self-made man who had built a net worth of hundreds of millions at a young age and developed the miraculous "Spirit Water"—he was clearly an outstanding talent. Ji Rushuang thought he was impressive, and since her daughter liked him, she was happy to support their relationship.
However, the household was not run by her, but by her husband, Zhang Yurong. Her husband had heard from Ziqiang that Xu Kang, a direct descendant of the Nine Tripod Great Families of the Dragon Capital, was interested in their daughter. Her husband had been so excited he couldn't sleep, dreaming of the day Zhang Xin would marry into the Xu family.
*Sigh! Entering a noble family is as deep as the sea.* The waters of the Nine Tripod Great Families, which stood at the pinnacle of the Hualong Federation, were not just deep—they were unfathomable. Ji Rushuang wondered if marrying into such a family would be a blessing or a curse for her daughter.
She recalled her own past, and her expression grew melancholy. Her maiden family, the Ji family, was famous. While they weren't on par with the Nine Tripod families, they were still a prestigious, well-known clan in the Southeast Nine Prefectures, ranking among the top ten. Back then, her family had been vehemently against her relationship with Zhang Yurong because of the vast social disparity between them. She had eventually severed ties with her own family just to be with him.
*I hope Yurong will think more of our daughter and, for the sake of our own past, not play the role of the heartless father tearing lovers apart,* Ji Rushuang thought to herself.
Seeing the mistress lost in thought, the housekeeper said, "Ma'am, leave the rest to me. Since the future son-in-law is here, you should go out and meet him!"
Ji Rushuang had cooked the meal herself to show how much she valued Chen Xian. Hearing the housekeeper, she nodded. She had finished the main parts of the dishes, and the rest could be left to the staff. Besides, she was eager to meet this Chen Xian whom her daughter praised so highly.
