Chapter 128: From Heaven to Hell
Minutes later, at the summit of Lingshan Mountain.
A tiger-shaped shadow, carrying Tong Yin on its back, appeared outside the courtyard, with a dozen corpses hovering above its head.
Hong Gu, who was sitting cross-legged in meditation, opened her eyes, looked at Tong Yin, and said, "Master, you were very fast!"
Tong Yin ignored Hong Gu and walked toward the entrance of the courtyard.
"Just leave the corpses at the door," Chen Xian’s voice drifted from within.
Upon hearing this, Tong Yin replied respectfully, "Yes, Master!"
With a thought, the thirteen headless corpses dropped to the ground, piling up at the entrance.
After finishing this, Tong Yin waved his hand, and the tiger-shaped shadow transformed into a streak of white light, merging into his body and disappearing. He then went to a corner, sat cross-legged, and began to meditate quietly.
Seeing that her master was ignoring her, Hong Gu closed her eyes and continued to absorb spiritual energy for cultivation.
An hour later, a wisp of pleasant medicinal fragrance wafted from the alchemy cauldron in front of Chen Xian. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly as he muttered to himself, "This batch of Spirit Gathering Powder is a success!"
Chen Xian waved his hands, weaving intricate seals like fluttering butterflies that sank into the cauldron. The nine flames at the base extinguished, and the cauldron slowly stopped spinning, settling back onto the ground.
Taking advantage of the time while the cauldron cooled, he stood up, walked out of the courtyard, and looked at the thirteen headless corpses piled there. He nodded with satisfaction and said to Tong Yin, "You did well."
"You flatter me, Master. It was just killing a few lowly rabble," Tong Yin replied humbly.
Chen Xian said nothing more. He slightly raised his hand, and the storage ring on his little finger flickered with a faint light, absorbing all thirteen corpses into it.
He then returned to the courtyard, went into the secret chamber, collected the successfully refined medicine, and continued to refine more Spirit Gathering Powder.
As for the corpses inside the storage ring, Chen Xian would slowly refine and absorb them once he was finished with the medicine.
The storage ring contained far more than just these thirteen; it held the hundreds of corpses from the Hungry Wolf Mercenary Group, as well as those of Xiang Kui and his dozens of men.
...
In H City, at the top-floor office of the Xu Corporation's Southern Business Division, H-State Branch.
Xu Kang sat in front of his computer, feeling very satisfied with the email he had written; it was, in fact, a report of a triumphant victory.
He intended to send this report to the Xu Corporation's top brass once Zhang Da returned, to inform them of his performance.
Thinking about how the Xu executives would shower him with praise once they learned he had secured the Spirit Water, the corners of Xu Kang’s mouth lifted uncontrollably, filled with self-satisfied smugness.
In Xu Kang’s eyes, three powerful Mind Masters combined with ten peak Dark Strength martial artists could easily crush not just one Ma Group, but ten.
Unless the Ma Group had a Grandmaster presiding over them, there was no way they could withstand his assault.
However, in the entire Southeast Nine Provinces, only three martial arts Grandmasters were known to exist so far, and each had established a massive family. Before these Grandmaster families, the Ma family was but an ant compared to an elephant.
Xu Kang believed Zhang Da’s earlier analysis: the Ma family could not possibly have a Grandmaster; it was highly likely they were protected by a genius Mind Master with the equivalent strength of a peak Dark Strength martial artist.
The reason the Ma family claimed to have a Grandmaster as their backer was simply to deter others from coveting the Spirit Water.
Therefore, Xu Kang was not worried that Zhang Da and his team would fail their mission.
The more Xu Kang thought about it, the more excited he became. He couldn't wait any longer and sent the prepared victory report to the top leaders of the Xu family via a group email.
*Beep, beep, beep!*
Barely a minute had passed when the sound of incoming emails began to chime in his inbox.
Xu Kang immediately checked them and found they were all replies from the family elders.
Seeing this, he was overjoyed. Usually, when he sent emails to those high-ranking figures, it would take at least a few hours for a reply, and some wouldn't even bother to respond at all.
Now, they had replied within a minute, which was proof enough of how much the elders valued the Spirit Water.
Ever since his grandfather, Xu Yirong, went into secluded meditation and had not emerged for a long time, Xu Kang’s branch of the family had been neglected and even suppressed.
"Xu Kang, well done. If the Spirit Water can be mass-produced, your contribution will be monumental, and the family will certainly reward you handsomely!"
"Xu Kang, get the Spirit Water sample and send it back to the Longdu headquarters via a special courier immediately. Your reward will not be small!"
"Xu Kang..."
Seeing the content of the replies, Xu Kang’s handsome face was wreathed in smiles, as if they were about to bloom.
He felt as though he were riding the wind with great speed—a feeling that was excellent, as if he were in paradise, and he relished it deeply.
Xu Kang replied to each of the elders one by one, stating that he would send someone through the night with the Spirit Water and its formula to report back to the Longdu headquarters.
After sending the emails, Xu Kang stood up and stretched. He looked at the global limited-edition watch on his wrist and saw that it was already past 1:00 AM. He estimated that in at most another hour, Zhang Da and the thirteen experts would return to the branch with the Spirit Water formula.
Zhang Da would deserve the primary credit for obtaining the formula.
Xu Kang called Zhang Da, but found the other party’s phone was unreachable, likely out of battery, so he didn't pay it much mind.
Xu Kang immediately summoned his beautiful secretary to ask how the victory banquet was coming along.
"Reporting to President Xu, the victory banquet is ready, and we can dine at any time," the secretary said, looking at the smiling President.
She felt that the President looked so charming in this state, like the perfect Prince Charming.
However, she knew her place; a heaven-sent talent like the President would never look twice at a woman of her status.
"Good, you may go out now," Xu Kang said with a smile.
The secretary exited, leaving Xu Kang alone in the office. He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the situation below the building.
Since it was the middle of the night, there were basically no vehicles on the streets.
Just then, a black Mercedes entered his field of vision; it looked very similar to the ones from his branch.
Xu Kang glanced at it and then looked away. He had sent out five cars, and this one could not possibly be one of his.
He sat back in his boss chair, crossed his legs, and waited quietly, a smile still lingering on his lips.
At that moment, at the building’s entrance, Zhang Da was walking toward the doors, covered in blood and carrying thirteen dripping heads, looking like an evil spirit.
The night-shift security guard saw all those heads and shuddered, nearly scared out of his wits.
He hurriedly called over the other guards, intending to stop Zhang Da from entering the building.
However, when the guards realized the man was the high-ranking executive Zhang Da, they quickly opened the door to let him in, not daring to sound the alarm.
"Damn, what did President Zhang go do? Carrying thirteen heads back like that, it's terrifying!"
"No kidding, President Zhang looks so scary like this, I almost pissed myself!"
"This is the first time I've ever seen a scene like this!"
Several security guards watched Zhang Da's retreating back, whispering to each other with lingering fear.
*Ring, ring, ring!*
Hearing his phone ring, Xu Kang picked it up and said, "What is it?"
"Pr... President Xu, you need to come out and see this! Wuwuwu, it’s so scary!" The secretary’s terrified, sobbing voice came over the line.
Hearing this, Xu Kang frowned slightly. He hung up the phone, stood up, and walked out toward the main office.
When Xu Kang pulled the door open, the sight he saw left him completely stunned.
