Chapter 123: He Still Needs to Make Up for It?!

Xia Yan glanced helplessly at Lin You, who was drinking tea in the living room, but he didn’t notice her at all. She could only grit her teeth and say to Chen Qiumei, "Mom, Lin You and I haven’t really thought about having children yet."
"Not thought about it? That won’t do. When I was your age, I had already given birth to Lin You. You two need to hurry up. Besides, your father and I are here now, and while we’re still strong, we can help take care of the children."
Hearing Xia Yan say they hadn't considered having children, Chen Qiumei became anxious on the spot.
At first, when Xia Yan married Lin You, she was happy to hear she could become a mother without pain, but she hadn’t expected to escape her husband’s pressure only to face her mother-in-law’s urging to have children.
Suddenly, Chen Qiumei straightened up, as if she had realized something. "Yan Yan, in my hometown, I know a healer who has a medicine that can help you have a son."
"Mom, there’s nothing wrong with me," Xia Yan hurriedly replied, alarmed at the thought of taking medicine.
It was an offhand remark, but to Chen Qiumei, it carried a different meaning. She abruptly turned to her son and whispered, "That healer also has a remedy for men..."
Xia Yan was stunned. Were they going to give Lin You medicine too?
"Mom, I... I... Lin You doesn’t... doesn’t need it. Ah, Mom, it’s not like that. Lin You and I have talked about it. We don’t want our own children. There are already three children from Second Uncle’s family, and I feel that’s enough."
Thinking of the three children, Xia Yan’s eyes filled with affection.
Only then did Chen Qiumei understand why her daughter-in-law didn’t want children. She sighed heavily. "Yan Yan, this is something our family owes you."
"Mom, what are you saying? There’s nothing to owe me. I’ve just formed a bond with those three children, and I love them dearly. They are like my own."
Tears streamed down Chen Qiumei’s face as she kept saying "good."
She had heard from Xia Guoliang that when they went to Anjia to see their daughter, they were turned away without even meeting her, which showed how difficult that “biological daughter” was.
Later, when she heard that the “biological daughter” had gone to the northwest to find her son, she was so worried she couldn’t sleep for days.
But the first time she met Xia Yan, she felt she was polite, sensible, cooked well, and treated her granddaughter kindly.
She could hardly believe Xia Yan was the “unreasonable, temperamental” biological daughter Xia Guoliang had described.
However, after this conversation, the weight in her heart finally lifted.
At that moment, Lin Ling’s voice came from outside the door. "Brother, sister-in-law! I’m back."
Seeing Lin Ling again, the girl was now dressed in military uniform and looked much more spirited.
"Yes, not bad, you look like a soldier now," Lin You said, patting his sister’s shoulder with approval.

"Yes, Captain Lin!" Lin Ling responded with a not-so-perfect military salute.
Lin You smiled, brushing the snowflakes off her hair. Outside, the light snow that had just started had turned into large, fluffy flakes, and the ground was already covered with a thin layer.
Lin Hongzhuo was building a snowman with Nuan Nuan.
...
On the mountain, the new soldiers’ initial excitement had faded, and the journey became increasingly difficult.
Zhu Yan was carrying medical supplies, struggling more and more as the snow deepened.
Wang Baoguo suddenly grabbed the medical box from Zhu Yan’s shoulders. "Let me carry it."
"No need," Zhu Yan firmly held the strap, not letting him take it.
"At a time like this, why be so stubborn!" Wang Baoguo shouted angrily, clearly upset by Zhu Yan’s attitude.
Startled by his shout, Zhu Yan froze momentarily. Taking advantage of this, Wang Baoguo snatched the medical box and slung it over his own back, striding forward. "Everyone, keep your spirits up and watch your step! There’s a large cave about two kilometers ahead. We’ll rest there. If the snow gets too heavy, we’ll spend the night in the cave!"
After shouting this, Wang Baoguo noticed Zhu Yan’s calves sinking into the snow. He wanted to help, but she gave him no chance, gritting her teeth and pushing forward.
"She really is stubborn," Wang Baoguo muttered as he carefully followed behind to protect her.
Two kilometers isn’t far, but in this primeval forest with heavy snow, the group had been walking for who knows how long. Some soldiers were already physically exhausted, especially a few coastal soldiers who had started out excited by the snow but now stumbled every few steps.
Someone suddenly shouted, "Cave!"
Everyone’s faces lit up with joy. Wang Baoguo finally exhaled deeply: They had arrived.
The cave had clearly been cleared but was small. Everyone felt crowded inside.
"Instructor Wang, a few of us grew up in the north and are used to weather like this. We’ll take turns keeping watch tonight," said a burly soldier in the middle of a group of five.
Wang Baoguo had just returned from the south and was still adjusting to the snow. "Let’s first find some firewood. Otherwise, we won’t last through the night."

"Okay."
The group checked their guns. Despite it being winter on the snowy mountain, there were still dangerous beasts like snow leopards. Without caution, someone could get hurt. Of course, if they found anything edible, having guns would help with hunting.
If they were lucky enough to shoot a deer, there would be enough meat for everyone that night. Meat was always more delicious than the dry rations, and its energy was incomparable.
Before setting out, Wang Baoguo glanced at Zhu Yan sitting inside the cave. "Take good care of Doctor Zhu."
"Yes!"
A female soldier who had come up the mountain with them huffed and leaned over to Zhu Yan. "Doctor Zhu, it looks like Instructor Wang has a thing for you?"
"Don’t talk nonsense," Zhu Yan said coldly, pulling a quilt from her bag and wrapping it around herself.
The girl saw Zhu Yan’s cold expression and stuck out her tongue, deciding not to say more. She had seen Zhu Yan during the base’s medical checkup and knew her aura was unapproachable—someone hard to get along with.
Having just been rebuffed, she knew better than to press.
The sky was overcast, and Zhu Yan unknowingly fell asleep. When she woke, it had been two hours since Wang Baoguo left, but he still hadn’t returned.
"Has the instructor come back yet?"
"No, Doctor Zhu."
Zhu Yan looked outside the cave, where heavy snow was falling, making it impossible to see beyond ten meters.
Frowning, worry crept into her heart.
At that moment, a gunshot echoed through the forest. Many soldiers immediately raised their rifles, aiming outside the cave.
More shots followed, and the sound grew closer.
"Go meet them quickly!"
