Time flew. Two days passed for the busy Xia Yan in the blink of an eye.

Early that morning, she got up to make breakfast. When she reached the living room, Lin You was already sitting there, with the documents needed for the marriage registration placed beside him.

The registration went smoothly, with no melodramatic mishaps.

On the way back, Xia Yan looked at the marriage certificate in her hands. Unlike the future version, this one had no photo of the two of them, only their names, genders, and ages.

“Lin You, once your younger sister, Dad, and Mom arrive, let’s take a family portrait.”

“Okay. From now on, I’ll listen to you in everything.”

That evening, the two boys looked at the marriage certificate on the table and offered their congratulations. Lin Hongzhuo, especially, hugged the certificate and ran around the house several times.

Xia Yan made six dishes and a soup that night: sweet and sour spare ribs, tomato beef brisket, braised lamb, and more.

At first, Xia Yan had wanted to invite the Ruan family from next door, but Lin You stopped her. Today belonged to their family; inviting guests to dinner could wait a few days.

That day, the two of them had even bought two bottles of orange soda on their way down the mountain.

The three children ate until their mouths were greasy, and both large bottles of soda were emptied.

That night, Lin Hongzhe acted very sensibly and took Lin Nuannuan to sleep in the room where Lin You usually slept, leaving the room with the big bed for the two of them.

After Xia Yan finished everything and took a shower, she realized what had happened. Blushing, she said, “I boiled some water. Do you want to take a bath?”

Lin You gave an awkward cough, suddenly at a loss, but he still listened to her.

Back in the bedroom, Xia Yan glanced at the double bed in front of her and began to feel nervous. She wanted to go and get another quilt, but after thinking about it for a long time, she worried Lin You might feel disappointed.

Although they had already slept in the same bed the last time they were back in her hometown, that situation was entirely different from tonight. Now they were legally husband and wife.

She found one of her own pillows in the wardrobe and placed it on the bed, then changed the bedding to a new quilt before sitting down with her hands clasped together, glancing toward the door from time to time.

After quite a while, Lin You still had not come in. She undressed and got into the covers. Even though he had not arrived yet, she was so nervous she did not dare move.

Lin You usually showered very quickly. A rinse under the water was enough for him, but tonight, knowing he would be sleeping with Xia Yan, he wanted to scrub himself nearly raw before he could feel at ease.

When he finished showering and entered the room, only a small lamp by the bedside was still lit.

Hearing the movement, Xia Yan looked up and saw Lin You standing there, wearing only a shirt on his upper body. His perfectly defined figure was fully on display.

Lin You instinctively locked the door.

The click made Xia Yan’s heart seem to skip a beat.

She did not usually lock the door, and now that Lin You had locked it, it gave the impression that he was about to do something bad.

Lin You’s nerves were no less taut than Xia Yan’s. After getting into bed, he deliberately kept a small distance from her, afraid of touching her.

The quilt carried a faint fragrance, the unique scent of Xia Yan herself.

So this was what the older generation meant by a gentle nest, a tender country.

Even while deliberately keeping his distance, it was hard not to let his mind run wild, especially for Lin You, who had been single for thirty years.

At that moment, he only felt heat surging through his whole body. Cautiously, he lifted the quilt a little and rested one arm on top of it, which made him feel somewhat better.

The instant he moved, Xia Yan thought he was about to do something, and her body visibly stiffened. Lin You noticed the change in her and turned to look at her, only to see her eyes shut tightly. If not for the faint tremble of her eyelashes, he would have thought she was asleep.

Her odd little expression did make Lin You relax a little. “You’re tired today. Get some rest early.”

He only meant to remind her of what he had said before: if Xia Yan was not ready, he would never touch her.

When he heard the light go out, Xia Yan opened her eyes. The faint glow in the room was still enough for her to make out the outline of Lin You’s face beside her.

Perhaps because she had been tense for so long, or perhaps because of the ride earlier in the day, Xia Yan drifted off to sleep without even noticing it.

Lin You, feeling the breathing beside him gradually grow steady, knew that she had truly fallen asleep.

Just as he adjusted his body, closed his eyes, and was about to sleep, the person beside him rolled over. Before Lin You could react, a slender leg had already pressed down on his thigh, and a little farther up was the most vulnerable part of a man.

His eyes flew open. Instinctively, he reached out to move Xia Yan’s leg away, but the instant his hand touched her leg, he froze.

Tonight Xia Yan had worn a nightdress, and because of her turning over, the hem had long since been pushed up to her waist. What Lin You was holding now was her bare leg, completely uncovered. The sensation made a rush of heat surge straight downward through him.

He hurriedly let go and drew in a deep breath.

Just as he was fighting to cool himself down, Xia Yan’s leg actually shifted upward again.

At that moment, a primal urge shot straight to his brain, and Lin You felt as though his defenses were about to be breached.

He struggled to control himself, his mind frantically searching for anything else to focus on. Time passed second by second, and Lin You was tormented by Xia Yan until his whole body had gone stiff as stone.

Thankfully, Xia Yan later changed position, and Lin You instantly felt saved. He did not even mind that most of the quilt had been rolled away by her.

To prevent anything similar from happening again, Lin You moved farther to the side before finally relaxing and closing his eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep.

In the morning, Xia Yan woke early as usual. She opened her eyes and found that all the quilt had been gathered into her arms. Her gaze shifted, and she saw the man beside her still sleeping soundly, not yet awake.

Seeing that Lin You did not even have the edge of a quilt over him, Xia Yan felt terribly guilty. Usually, she and Nuannuan each used a quilt of their own, so when she fell asleep, she had forgotten that the person beside her was Lin You.

Then she thought again: fortunately, she had only been hugging the quilt. If she had been hugging Lin You like she had back at her hometown, that would have been truly mortifying.

Xia Yan loosened her hold on the quilt in her arms, lifted the blanket edge, and carefully tried to cover Lin You with it.

Only...

The moment she raised her hand, she suddenly felt that something about Lin You down there seemed a little different from usual...

Gathering her courage, she looked over, and the shape made her quickly cover her mouth. Although she had touched it before with her leg back in her hometown and had some idea of what it was like, she had never actually seen it with her own eyes. Now it was different...

She wanted to look away...

But the little devil in her heart kept whispering by her ear: Look. He’s asleep. It’s fine...
