Chapter 94: Quite Good
In the afternoon, at Xiangzhang Yue Residence.
A Porsche Cayenne glided quietly into the underground garage below the building.
Sitting inside the car, An Tong still found it hard to believe this was real. At the very least, her emotions right now were a world apart from her mood just two days ago when she had delivered her suitcase here.
This duplex villa was their home.
The word "home" drifted through her mind like a wave, stirring her heart with emotion.
An Tong curled her fingers, her eyes brimming with longing and hope.
It had been so long since she last had a home.
After a while, Rong Shen sensed the subtle shift in An Tong’s mood. Though slight, it was easy to discern.
He undid her seatbelt, gently took her hand, and gave her fingertips a light squeeze. “Lost in your thoughts again?”
An Tong snapped out of her reverie, curving her lips into a smile. “Not at all~”
The two words flowed softly from her, tinged with a playful hint of coyness.
Rong Shen pressed his lips together, pinched her cheek lightly, and teased, “If that’s so, why aren’t you getting out of the car?”
An Tong pulled at the corners of her mouth and unhurriedly opened the car door.
As they left the garage, the man naturally took her hand.
An Tong held his palm tightly and, searching for something to say, asked, “Is your office at Zhanzhou Tower?”
“Mm.” They walked up the steps side by side, Rong Shen glancing at her. “Why do you ask?”
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, feigning calm. “If we lived at the Garden, wouldn’t it be closer to your company?”
Huai Nan Road was part of the education district, with Zhanke University nearby and a university town to the north.
An Tong had already checked the route – from the Garden to Zhanzhou Tower, it was just a thirty-minute drive.
But from Xiangzhang Yue Residence, it would take at least fifty minutes by car.
If he had to be at work at eight, he’d probably have to leave by seven. Just thinking about it made her feel sorry for him.
“The difference in distance is hardly worth worrying about,” the man replied, as if he could read the emotions flickering in her eyes. After a brief pause, he chuckled. “By your logic, living at the office would be even closer.”
An Tong was at a loss for words, unsure how to come back at him.
As usual, she opted for silence.
A low, magnetic chuckle rumbled from the man’s throat. He pulled An Tong into his arm, lowering his handsome face to tease her, “Why so quiet now?”
An Tong turned slightly, averting her gaze, though she watched him closely from the corner of her eye. “You’ve already said everything there is to say…”
His laughter deepened, and he pressed a kiss to her temple. “If you like living at the Garden, we can always go back on weekends.”
“That’s not what I meant.” An Tong, worried he’d misunderstood, tugged at his sleeve and explained softly, “When we lived at the Garden, you left after eight in the morning. Now that we’ve moved here, you’ll have to leave earlier because the commute is longer. It’ll be hard on you.”
Rong Shen led her into the villa, arm around her shoulders, and smiled with a trace of meaning. “It’s not that bad. At most, I’ll just be a little late.”
“Is it really all right to be late?” An Tong raised her brows in surprise.
He nodded, his gaze deep and inscrutable. “It doesn’t matter.”
An Tong nodded thoughtfully. “Your company must be pretty nice, then.”
Seeing her so earnest, Rong Shen couldn’t help but laugh under his breath.
It seemed it would be a long road indeed to change An Tong’s way of thinking.
...
Two hours later, Cheng Feng, Ling Qi, and Yuan Kai arrived at the villa as promised.
At this time, An Tong was still upstairs unpacking, so only Rong Shen sat by the window at the tea table, elegantly brewing tea.
“Ninth Master, are you satisfied with the way the rooms are arranged?” Yuan Kai asked in his usual serious and robust manner.
The man blew away the rising steam from his teacup, glanced at Yuan Kai, and replied calmly, “Not bad.”
Yuan Kai scratched his head with a blank expression. “As long as you’re pleased.”
Cheng Feng and Ling Qi exchanged glances, their expressions hard to describe.
The three of them had come in together, but this guy just had to jump in first, as if he’d done all the work himself!
Over the next ten minutes or so, Cheng Feng and Ling Qi reported on the progress of their respective tasks.
Finally, Ling Qi cleared her throat and shifted the topic. “Boss, my apartment is in Block B of Yue Residence. Don’t you think… it’s a bit far?”
Before Rong Shen could speak, Yuan Kai eyed her suspiciously. “Far? I live in Block C and it only takes me ten minutes to walk over. Block B is just past the garden – it’s closer than mine.”
Ling Qi shot him a glare and continued her suggestion to Rong Shen, “Boss, you have so many rooms in this duplex villa. How about… I move in too? I can help Madam look after An An, and keep her company.”
Cheng Feng gave her a sideways glance. “Why don’t you just admit you don’t like living on the eighteenth floor.”
At that, Yuan Kai chimed in, “I’m on the twelfth.”
Ling Qi puffed out her cheeks, fuming like a pufferfish.
Who in their right mind would want to live in the ‘hell’ of the eighteenth floor, especially the top floor where it’s cold in winter and scorching in summer?
The reason might be a little flimsy, but she truly didn’t want to live there.
Rong Shen caught on and glanced at Ling Qi. “If you disliked it, why didn’t you pick a different floor in the first place?”
“I was too busy ingratiating myself with Madam in Hong Kong at the time. When would I have had time to come to Zhanzhou and pick out an apartment?” Ling Qi grumbled, her tone full of grievance. “By the time I went to the sales center, all seven buildings in Block B only had the top, eighteenth floor left.”
So, plenty of people must have shared her aversion for the eighteenth floor. She just happened to be one of them.
“Go tell the sales manager,” Rong Shen said leisurely, sipping his tea. “Have them free up a duplex in Block A for you.”
Ling Qi was overjoyed, but managed to suppress her smile and feign modesty. “Boss, are you sure that’s all right? What about the apartment in Block B?”
“Keep it if you want, return it if you don’t. You can buy the duplex in Block A at the employee discount price.”
Ling Qi performed a deep bow. “Thank you, Boss. My gratitude to your whole family.”
Cheng Feng and Yuan Kai: “???”
Not long after Ling Qi left, a clear, melodic sound of a piano being tested rang out from upstairs.
Rong Shen’s lips curled and his eyes narrowed. The next second, he looked at the two men in front of him. “Anything else?”
Cheng Feng and Yuan Kai both shook their heads. “No, that’s all.”
He set down his teacup and waved them off. “Go home and pack up, then. Come pick me up at nine on Monday.”
After they left, Rong Shen also rose and headed upstairs.
Meanwhile, as the two men walked down the steps outside, they both took out their phones and called the sales center at the same time, asking in unison, “Can I swap my apartment in Block C for the eighteenth floor in Block B?”
The sales center staff were at a loss for words.
Had all of Mr. Rong’s assistants lost their minds today?
Just five minutes ago, they’d gotten a call from Ling Qi, and now these two were calling at the same time.
You’re getting apartments for free, and still being picky – do you have no shame?
