Rong Shen frowned and temporarily set aside his work. “What is it?”
Ling Qi noticed the impatience on the man’s face and did not dare keep him waiting. She got straight to the point. “Madam has settled on a name for her company: Rong’an Technology. Your Rong, her An.”
Strangely enough, the man’s brows had been furrowed and his expression cold, but at those words his features relaxed and his mood brightened at once. “Mm.”
Seeing this, Ling Qi scratched her head and continued, “Also, Madam seems to have arranged to have coffee with Wen Wan this afternoon.”
“Wen Wan asked her out?”
Ling Qi considered the question before replying, “I don’t know who invited whom, but…”
After thinking it over, she recounted in full what An Tong had just asked, along with every change in her expression.
…
At the same time, An Tong replied to Wen Wan on WeChat, apologizing that she would be unable to meet her as planned.
Wen Wan had sent the message after the gathering the previous evening, but An Tong had been drunk and never saw it. She had not replied until now.
Before Wen Wan could respond, however, Rong Shen had already entered the living room of the villa.
An Tong instinctively extinguished her phone screen. “What brings you here?”
The man approached on his long legs, the faintest smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Didn’t you say you wanted to take some things back? Have you finished packing?”
An Tong tugged at her lips. “Oh. I’ll go pack now.”

“I’m not rushing you. There’s still time.” Rong Shen reached out and caught her by the arm.
Forced to take two steps backward, An Tong’s shoulder bumped against his chest.
He lowered his gaze; she lifted her head.
The instant their eyes met, An Tong inevitably remembered the passionate kiss in the living room that Cheng Feng had interrupted that morning.
Leaning lightly against him, she smiled. “Did you come here specially to see me?”
Rong Shen looked down at her face, bright with a faint smile, and rubbed his thumb several times against her cheek. “What did Wen Wan say to you yesterday, hmm?”
An Tong’s smile stiffened at once, and the corners of her lips seemed to droop. “Nothing much. Why did you suddenly bring her up?”
Aside from the brief conversation she had just had with Ling Qi, An Tong had never mentioned Wen Wan in Rong Shen’s presence.
The man saw the suspicion and displeasure concealed beneath her calm exterior. A slight smile curved his lips, softening his sharp features considerably.
Lowering his handsome face, he murmured in a teasing tone, “You asked so many people about her in such roundabout ways. If you really wanted to know something, why didn’t you come and ask me?”
An Tong turned her face away awkwardly, knowing that he had certainly discovered how she had questioned Butler Li and the others that morning about Wen Wan.
She stubbornly replied, “I only wanted to learn a little about her. I wasn’t asking around indirectly…”
If Wen Wan truly liked Rong Shen, An Tong could hardly go and ask him about it herself.
What if Wen Wan had never shown any such feelings? Wouldn’t An Tong then have ended up confessing on her rival’s behalf and helping them along in the process?

She might have emotional difficulties, but she was not lacking in intelligence.
An Tong had always considered herself broad-minded, not the sort of woman to quibble over every little thing.
Yet at times she could also be exceptionally sensitive and petty.
For instance, when it came to the strong possibility that Wen Wan liked Rong Shen, she simply could not bring herself to be magnanimous.
At that moment, Rong Shen studied her dejected expression and replied with unhurried composure, “You suddenly wanted to know more about her. Did you hit it off at first sight last night?”
The possibility was virtually nonexistent.
An Tong merely appeared gentle and mild, easy to approach. Beneath that mildness, however, lay a far greater degree of distance and avoidance.
Because of her condition, she disliked making friends, disliked initiating conversations, and was even less likely to feel an instant affinity with anyone.
Rong Shen knew this perfectly well, so his deliberately obvious question was simply a way of guiding her and easing her emotions.
