Chapter 37: The Brutal Bemular

The King Joe under Rod’s control descended to the ground, where he announced to everyone that the Hive Fleet had been completely destroyed and that their defensive campaign had ended in perfect victory.
The surviving humans erupted in cheers. This time, they had truly defeated the Hive Fleet.
All they had to do now was wait for reinforcements to arrive, then work together to purge the Tyranid forces from the planet.
Not long after Bemstar began moving, several Astra Militarum observers on the ground detected an anomalous radar blip.
Through the virtual display linked to the radar, they saw the utterly terrifying cosmic monster.
Bemstar flew through the atmosphere at speeds reaching Mach Five. At an altitude of barely a hundred meters, its passage generated explosive sonic booms, turning the scene into something resembling a natural disaster.
Everything in its path was left in ruin. The ground and valleys looked as though they had been carved apart by blades. Countless Tyranids were swept into the air and drawn into the absorption organs in its abdomen.
“Emperor above! This is bad! Commissar Voss, we—we’ve detected another colossal Titan organism!
“Its shape… it looks somewhat like a gigantic bird, but—just come and see for yourself! I can’t explain it.”
The Astra Militarum soldier at the instrument wiped the sweat from his brow and spoke with undisguised despair.
On the virtual display, a terrifying suction force could be seen forming in Bemstar’s abdomen. Tyranids on the ground were being swallowed up, along with most of the trees, rocks, and even the soil itself.
Compared with Red King, who slaughtered the Tyranids with his claws, tail, and massive body, Bemstar’s method of extermination was far more efficient—and far more horrifying.
Countless Tyranids were drawn into Bemstar’s body. The enormous birdlike monster seemed like a bottomless pit, devouring everything in a frenzy.
If Red King’s battle against the swarm could still be considered a normal confrontation, then Bemstar’s battle with the swarm was something else entirely. It was not a battle, but a one-sided massacre.
“Notify the Canoness, the Astartes captain, and Lord Rod. Bring them here at once,” Commissar Voss said, staring at the screen with an expression of utter dread.
How could such a terrifying monster exist? Could a life-form like this truly exist somewhere in the universe?
That enormous creature had clearly flown in from outer space!
It was feeding on Tyranids. Was it an individual creature, or was an entire horde lurking behind it?
And what connection did it have to the other giant that could not fly and was restricted to walking across the ground?
After receiving the message, Rod, Canoness Anna, and Polar Warrior Captain Dreyce immediately set aside their duties and followed the Astra Militarum soldiers to Commissar Voss.

“Commissar, what has happened?” Canoness Anna asked. She had just been praying to the Emperor alongside her fellow Battle Sisters.
“You need to see this for yourselves. A terrifying Titan organism has appeared, and it is attacking the Tyranids.
“More than that, it is using an utterly horrifying method. Its ability to devour everything is so dreadful that it seems more like a monster than the Tyranids themselves,” Commissar Voss said, his face pale.
The power displayed by Bemstar had filled the Astra Militarum commissar with fear.
The three of them nodded and went to the electronic display, where they began watching footage of Bemstar’s rampage.
In only a few short hours, Bemstar had devoured most of the Tyranids.
The destruction caused by the giant birdlike Titan organism was utterly beyond anything they had imagined.
“Lord Rod, can you and the Emperor’s divine machine destroy that thing?” Canoness Anna asked as she approached him.
If such a terrifying creature attacked them, Lord Rod was the only person present who might be able to deal with it.
“If necessary, I will confront it myself,” Rod replied with a nod.
“I believe in you. I believe that the Emperor’s divine machine can defeat any enemy of the Imperium,” Canoness Anna said, looking at Rod.
She had complete faith in Rod—or, more precisely, in the Emperor’s divine machine behind him.
“For now, it would be best not to provoke it,” Captain Dreyce said. “It is helping us deal with our troubles. If we had to eliminate the Tyranids ourselves, it would probably take several months, perhaps even years.
“At the speed this behemoth is clearing them out, the Tyranids may be completely gone within a day or two.”
At least for the moment, the terrifying life-form had shown no interest in the humans.
Moreover, it was helping them resolve their crisis. There were hundreds of thousands of Tyranids on the planet.
It would take them an extremely long time to eliminate them all. Without Lord Rod’s divine machine, it would be impossible.
“For now, we should hide here and let this Titan organism fight the Tyranid swarm.”

“If it devours the entire swarm and still refuses to leave the planet, I will pilot the divine machine and deal with it myself.
“If it leaves the planet immediately, that will prove its primary food source is the Tyranids. At least then, we can breathe a temporary sigh of relief,” Rod said.
“We still need to resolve the problem posed by these two super-beasts,” Commissar Voss said. “As long as they remain on this planet, humanity will have no way to colonize it.”
If all else failed, they could only wait for the Imperial Navy to arrive and use orbital bombardment to destroy the two monsters.
“Perhaps we can manipulate the situation somehow and make the two monsters turn on each other. What do you think?” Rod suggested.
It was time to deal with the problem of Bemstar and Red King.
Rod could simply absorb them into the system space, but doing so would be too suspicious. Two enormous beasts appearing without warning, destroying the Tyranids, and then vanishing just as suddenly would be far too abnormal.
So Rod intended to arrange a proper departure for both monsters.
Red King would pretend to be defeated in his battle with Bemstar and be swallowed by Bemstar’s absorption organs.
In reality, Rod would send Red King back into the system space, while Bemstar would fly into the cosmos and disappear from human sight.
It was better to let it remain nothing more than a cosmic monster. He could not afford to let anyone associate it with him.
Everyone’s eyes lit up at his words.
“That is an excellent plan!”
“Brilliant. Let the two behemoths fight each other. Whichever one wins, we only need to eliminate the survivor.”
“Have the soldiers take shelter in the caves. They must avoid coming outside and attracting the bird’s attention. Let it clear the Tyranids from the planet first,” Rod ordered.
The group settled on a strategy. They would hide and allow Bemstar to exterminate the swarm, then find a way to make the two giant beasts fight each other.
