Chapter Twenty: Seething with Rage
Nearby City and his companions naturally did not linger any longer. After throwing Xu Feng into the cell, they paid him no further mind and turned to leave.
No sooner had their figures disappeared than a group of fierce and terrifying prisoners gathered around.
Those locked away in the great prison were no good men; those confined within the celestial prison were even more vicious and cruel. Seeing Xu Feng’s tender and delicate appearance, they thought to take advantage of him.
“Kid, where do you come from, and what did you do? Tell me!”
The leader bore a long slash scar across his face, one eye covered with a black patch. He slowly approached Xu Feng and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Xu Feng disliked anyone touching him unless under very special circumstances.
“Take your filthy hand off.”
“Oh? This pretty boy’s got some backbone. Looks like brothers here have some fun ahead. Let him know whose turf this is.”
The underworld was never just about romance and heroics; it was filled with endless troubles. Only someone as naïve as Feng Yimian could hope to wander it unscathed.
Ignoring Xu Feng’s warning, the scar-faced man laughed heartily. In that instant, Xu Feng swiftly kicked forward with his right foot. A small stone on the ground shot straight toward the scar-faced man’s crotch.
A pained scream rang out as the man clutched his groin and collapsed.
Xu Feng then crouched down before him, patting his face lightly.
“Someone always wants to die, but why don’t they take my warnings to heart?”
Before the others could react, Xu Feng nonchalantly twisted the scar-faced man’s neck.
Silence fell over the cell, broken only by the warmth still radiating from the fallen man’s corpse. The others, seeing this, retreated to the corners like avoiding a plague, no longer daring to provoke Xu Feng.
They could clearly see that this delicate, tender-faced boy was actually a formidable force.
One should never judge by appearances alone.
“Someone come out and tell me what’s going on here, and what crimes you’ve all committed.”
No one dared resist. A young man was pushed forward to speak for the group.
“This is the celestial prison under the Gusu Six-Fan Gate’s jurisdiction. There are over a hundred prisoners locked within. Our cell holds ten people, including river pirates and lecherous thieves.”
“The one who just died at your hands is Scarface. He was arrested for murder and robbery.”
Lin Hai cautiously explained the situation inside the old prison building. The strongest among them was only a fifth-rank martial scholar, powerless against a warrior like Xu Feng.
“And you? What crime did you commit?”
“I’m the lecherous thief,” Lin Hai replied with a nervous chuckle. No sooner had he spoken than he heard Xu Feng’s cold snort, causing him to stagger and fall to his knees, kowtowing repeatedly, begging for his life.
Xu Feng did not finish him off but kicked him in the chest, sending him flying away.
“From now on, I’m in charge of this cell. You all must obey my rules.”
“The lord decides; we’ll obey the lord,” they replied hastily.
“Now clear out a clean bed for me and clean the entire building. I don’t want to smell even a trace of filth, or Scarface’s fate will be yours.”
The fierce prisoners suddenly became industrious. Without cleaning tools, they stripped their clothes to sweep away the dust.
After some effort, the cell finally looked somewhat cleaner.
Xu Feng climbed onto the bed and closed his eyes to rest. He wasn’t in a hurry to go out yet; he wanted to see what tricks Nearby City was up to.
He was only awakened when it was time to eat.
“Sir, get up. It’s mealtime.”
Opening his eyes, Xu Feng glanced at the food—dark, hardened steamed buns with a sour stench detected from afar. The accompanying dishes were even more unappetizing, likely leftovers carelessly served.
To curry favor, the criminals had picked out some better food for Xu Feng’s bowl, even placing a slice of meat on top, though it whetted no appetite.
“I’m not hungry. You can have it yourselves.”
Seeing this, the others were not polite. Eating well was a luxury here; such food appeared only once every three days.
They hoped Xu Feng wouldn’t eat at all, so they could have more themselves.
When Xu Feng ignored them, they grew restless and produced a die from somewhere, beginning to play boisterously.
Irritated, Xu Feng opened his eyes and casually ordered two prisoners to squat in the corner. The remaining two, holding water basins, occupied a spot for over an hour.
With this, no one dared oppose him.
One by one, they became very obedient. At the slightest misstep, Xu Feng would torment them without remorse—they were all ruthless criminals after all.
Elsewhere, Feng Yimian hurried to find Feng Yuzhi, telling her that Nearby City had taken Xu Feng away.
“Sis, this Nearby City fellow has gone too far. Xu Feng never offended him. He must answer for this, and we must rescue him quickly. We can’t let him come to harm.”
After hearing this, Feng Yuzhi also grew dissatisfied with Nearby City.
She felt that Nearby City had gone too far, especially since she knew nothing about this matter.
“Let’s go see what’s really happening.”
When Nearby City saw the two sisters arrive, he flew into a rage.
He felt his authority was being challenged once again.
“What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’re here to plead for Xu Feng. He’s involved with the Ghost-Faced Man.”
Before Feng Yuzhi could respond, Feng Yimian fired back like a trigger pulled.
“Such slander! You’ll say anything with your foul mouth. How could my brother-in-law be involved with the Ghost-Faced Man? He’s never even left home. You’re just incompetent and trying to shift blame. You’re truly confused.”
Feng Yuzhi also thought Nearby City had gone too far this time.
“Release him at once. You know who Xu Feng is better than I do. There’s no way he’s mixed up with someone like the Ghost-Faced Man.”
“I know you’re unhappy with him, but he is my husband now.”
Nearby City’s anger flared; he could not tolerate Feng Yuzhi opposing him.
“Whether he’s involved or not isn’t for you to decide. The Six-Fan Gate will judge freely.”
“If you refuse to release him, I’ll personally come and get him.”
Feng Yuzhi’s temper flared; she was done catering to him.
As she spoke, she turned to leave. At that moment, Nearby City sneered coldly.
“That useless man is probably already torn to pieces. Do you think the Six-Fan Gate’s celestial prison is a place you can just walk in and out of?”
Only then did the two sisters realize Xu Feng had been locked inside the celestial prison.
Feng Yimian was instantly thrown into panic.
