Jiang Yuwei replied indifferently, “Fine.”
The Academic Affairs Office.
“First, I want to ask whether this matter really requires calling your parents.”
The moment Wang Ping spoke, Chu Nan knew he intended to resolve the matter as simply as possible. He had no intention of punishing anyone.
Chu Nan, however, had no intention of letting Guo Shuai off so easily.
“Of course there’s no need to call them, Director Wang. This is all just a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding!”
“I wasn’t asking you. I was asking this girl. Do you think we should call his parents?”
“I…” Huang Jingjing hesitated.
To be honest, she had met Guo Shuai’s father before. Back when her own father was still working at the construction site, Guo Shuai’s father had even given her steamed buns. She had a fairly good impression of that uncle, and she would feel somewhat awkward if they called him over.
Her father had also once said that Uncle Guo had treated him well.
Chu Nan suddenly interrupted, “Of course you should call them. If you don’t, Guo Shuai will never learn his lesson and will keep harassing her!”
“Shut up! I wasn’t asking you either!” Wang Ping barked. “What are you to her? What gives you the right to make decisions for her?”
“Exactly! Who the hell are you?!”
“Guo Shuai, say one more word and see if I don’t slap you!” Wang Ping impatiently raised his hand.
Guo Shuai was instantly drained of color and instinctively covered his chubby face.
Chu Nan had already slapped his face swollen earlier. If Wang Ping struck him a couple of times with those enormous, skillet-sized palms, wouldn’t he end up disfigured?
“N-no… there’s no need,” Huang Jingjing finally said. She still lacked the courage to make the matter any bigger than it already was.
“No need to call them, then. But Guo Shuai must apologize to Huang Jingjing!” Chu Nan said expressionlessly. “Director Wang, surely you won’t object to that suggestion?”
Wang Ping had been about to lose his temper, but after hearing those words, he found himself unable to do so. “Chu Nan is right. Apologize to Huang Jingjing.”
“Fine, fine, I’ll apologize. I…”
Before Guo Shuai could finish, Jiang Yuwei suddenly spoke up. “A verbal apology alone isn’t enough. He should write Huang Jingjing a letter of apology. That way, if he does it again, there will at least be evidence against him. Besides, Director Wang should be able to find plenty of other grounds to discipline him. I’ve always believed that the cost of making a mistake shouldn’t be too low.”
“You—”
“Smack!”
Wang Ping slapped Guo Shuai across the face. “Didn’t you hear her? Hurry up and write the apology letter! Who the hell were you cursing at?”
Even the principal treated this girl with respect, yet this idiot had dared to curse at her. Did he no longer want to stay in this school?
Guo Shuai was completely dumbfounded. Then he saw Director Wang, usually so arrogant and overbearing, smiling obsequiously at Jiang Yuwei.
“Er, Miss, how many words do you think the apology letter should be?”
“About a thousand. Treat it as an essay.”
“What? A thousand words? I…”

“Didn’t you hear me? Get to it! There’s draft paper in my office. If you don’t finish it today, you’re not leaving. Once you’re done, you’ll personally hand the letter to Huang Jingjing. Understood?”
Seeing the vicious look on Wang Ping’s face, Guo Shuai swallowed his anger.
There was nothing he could do. A thin arm could not overpower a thick thigh. If he refused, Director Wang would probably slap him again. Then he would truly suffer.
But the thought of having just written a five-hundred-word essay in the examination hall, only to turn around and write another thousand-word essay, made him feel sick. In fact, Guo Shuai had originally intended to finish his essay. But when he saw Huang Jingjing, who had been in the same examination hall, run out, he had followed her. Who would have thought he would gain nothing and instead be forced to write an additional thousand-word essay?
“All right. You three can leave for now. And don’t spread this matter around. Consider it settled as a minor incident.”
“Understood. Thank you, Director Wang.” Huang Jingjing bowed. She was fairly satisfied with this outcome.
At the very least, after what had happened, Guo Shuai probably would not bother her again for some time.
The moment they left the office, Huang Jingjing thanked Jiang Yuwei.
Jiang Yuwei remained calm. “There’s no need to thank me. I would have said the same thing if it had been anyone else.”
Huang Jingjing smiled. “But you helped me, so I had to thank you.”
Jiang Yuwei was about to say something when the bell signaling the end of the examination suddenly rang.
“I’m going back first.” After saying that, Jiang Yuwei left without lingering.
Chu Nan looked at Huang Jingjing. “Let’s go too.”
“Go… where?” Huang Jingjing looked up at him, utterly bewildered.
“Silly girl. Of course I’m going home with you.”
“Oh.” Huang Jingjing smiled as well. She did not know why, but hearing him say that he was going home with her made her especially happy.
As they walked along, she could not help asking, “By the way, what… what is your relationship with Jiang Yuwei?”
“Didn’t I already tell you? We’re classmates. Naturally, we’re friends too.”
“Oh.”
“You don’t think there’s something romantic going on between us, do you?” Seeing Huang Jingjing hesitate, Chu Nan found it amusing. “She’s so outstanding. What could she possibly see in me?”
“Actually… you’re pretty outstanding too…”
Of course, Chu Nan did not hear that last sentence.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and this mock examination finally came to an end. Every student felt relaxed after finishing the tests. Naturally, however, some became even more nervous—or more vigilant—because of them.
The nervousness came from the fact that many students had discovered their own shortcomings through the examination. The vigilance came from the fact that some careless students had actually lost their examination admission cards and been refused entry to the examination halls.
Still, this was not the worst possible situation. After all, this was only a mock examination, not the real college entrance examination. If the actual examination were about to begin in a few minutes and you still did not have your admission card, that would truly be despairing.
To warn the students, the school held a special meeting for the senior-year students immediately after the examinations ended. Its purpose was to make them more mindful of their own shortcomings and to address the problems revealed by the mock examination.

Of course, Chu Nan did not care about any of this. Anyone who could lose their admission card before the college entrance examination truly did not deserve to sit for it. He felt no sympathy for such people, nor did he see any need to make excuses for them.
After the meeting ended, Zhou Xiaonan approached Chu Nan.
“Is something wrong?”
Chu Nan was somewhat surprised. She had never taken the initiative to look for him at school before.
“What, am I not allowed to come find you when there’s nothing wrong?” Zhou Xiaonan rolled her eyes at him.
“That’s not what I meant. I was just curious why you came looking for me.”
“I’m curious too. Why are you unwilling to come find me and hang out at school? You won the bet, so are you still afraid of Long Junhao and the others?” Zhou Xiaonan pouted.
She was simply a little annoyed. She had already been back at school for so many days, yet Chu Nan had not taken the initiative to look for her even once.
She did not even know what excuse he should have used to come find her, but she was annoyed nonetheless.
Chu Nan shook his head and smiled wryly. “Why would I be afraid of them? Think about it. You’re so outstanding. If I were always with you, what would happen if other people misunderstood and thought we were a couple?”
Zhou Xiaonan was visibly stunned. “So that’s what you were afraid of?”
“What else would it be?”
Zhou Xiaonan suddenly took a deep breath. Her gaze sharpened, and she fiercely pinched Chu Nan’s waist with her right hand.
“Are you still afraid? Are you? Are you?”
“I am, I am, I am! Stop pinching me—it hurts!”
“Hm? What did you say? Say it again!”
Quite a few students had not left yet. At that moment, they all looked over in astonishment.
“Isn’t that the goddess Zhou? Why is she flirting with someone?”
“Exactly. Is that her boyfriend?”
At those words, Chu Nan’s expression changed. Then he felt the pressure around his waist disappear. Zhou Xiaonan stopped pinching him and merely turned her face away.
“Heh. And you said you weren’t afraid.” Chu Nan secretly laughed to himself. “All right, stop fooling around. What did you really come to see me about today?”
Seeing the carefree smile on Chu Nan’s face, Zhou Xiaonan felt like strangling him. Even so, she restrained herself.
“Teacher He wants to see you.”
Chu Nan froze. “Teacher He? Who’s that?”
“Our homeroom teacher. She’s also the only highly educated music teacher our school has hired. She heard the song you sang last time and wants to give you a chance to perform onstage.”
