Chapter 34: The Night of the Full Moon

“The plan is simple. We work together and find a way to escape,” Jiang Li said calmly.
“That’s it?” Qin Lang looked at Jiang Li with contempt. Sure enough, he was still the same useless young master.
A faintly disdainful smile touched Jiang Li’s lips. “Oh? It sounds as though you have a better plan. Let’s hear it.”
Qin Lang’s expression froze. He had only just been brought here and knew neither the place nor the people. He could not even understand what these natives were saying. What plan could he possibly have?
“Let’s hear yours first,” Qin Lang snorted.
“Very simple.” Jiang Li smiled faintly. “You, Chu Chunqiu, Su Yang, and Li Tongxuan—if the four of you joined forces and caught them off guard, what do you think the odds would be of fighting your way out?”
Qin Lang’s eyes shifted. He knew that Chu Chunqiu and Su Yang were both highly capable, but they would still have to protect Jiang Li and the two girls, Qiuyue and the others.
If he took advantage of the moment when Chu Chunqiu and Su Yang engaged the natives and broke through on his own, his chances would be extremely high.
As for whether Jiang Li and the others lived or died, what did that have to do with him?
By this point, Qin Lang had seen the situation clearly. He would never get Qiuyue.
Besides, a true man was born with an eight-foot frame. How could he remain forever in a land of feminine tenderness? They were already at the foot of this small city. Once he entered it, with his abilities, he could easily pledge himself to someone and gain both wealth and beauty. What was there to fear?
“Fine. I agree. When are you planning to make your move?”
“In two days, at noon,” Jiang Li replied softly.
Qin Lang was startled. He looked at Jiang Li suspiciously. “Why choose noon? Aren’t you afraid of being discovered in broad daylight?”
“Not at all!” Jiang Li sneered. “Precisely because it is broad daylight, some of these natives will have to go hunting, leaving fewer guards behind.”
“Besides, do you think Wild Ox will expect us to make trouble in broad daylight? That’s called catching them off guard!”
Qin Lang nodded slowly. “Fine. I can cooperate with you for now, but only for this one operation.”
Jiang Li merely chuckled and said nothing. He slowed his steps, falling several paces behind Qin Lang to walk beside Ma De.
“It’s settled. We move in two days.”
Ma De rubbed his hands excitedly. “Good! We can finally leave this damned place!”
The moment they finished discussing the plan, Wild Ox, who had been leading the group, came to a stop.
Before long, one of the natives hurried over to inform Qin Lang. Qin Lang immediately followed him to the front of the procession.
Jiang Li looked ahead as well. A small stretch of dense woodland had appeared before them. Around its edge stood five or six stone and wooden huts. At a rough glance, there seemed to be about a dozen people.
By then, Qin Lang had already taken a wooden spear and slipped into the grass, charging forward.

Jiang Li had no interest in the matter whatsoever. There were only a dozen or so natives. Unless Qin Lang was an idiot, he would not charge straight in and fight them head-on.
As long as he found an opportunity to eliminate them one by one, Qin Lang’s chances of victory were quite high.
Events unfolded exactly as Jiang Li had expected. Half an hour later, Qin Lang stood before the woodland, a corpse hanging from the tip of his wooden spear, announcing the end of the battle.
Naturally, Wild Ox gave Qin Lang a long string of strange cries once the battle was over.
After gathering the spoils, the group immediately began their return journey.
Back at the camp, Jiang Li summoned everyone and whispered with them for a while. In the end, they finalized the escape plan.
“All right. We’re finally getting out of here. Everyone, eat a little more today!” Jiang Li waved his hand and sent them off to rest.
In the blink of an eye, night arrived. Having conquered two tribes in succession over the past two days, Wild Ox was in an excellent mood and sent them a sheep.
Jiang Li did not stand on ceremony. He lit a bonfire in the courtyard and began roasting the entire animal.
“What a pity there’s no wine,” Ma De said regretfully.
Jiang Li tore off a large piece of meat. “We’ll make do. Wine leads to trouble. We’ll talk about it once we’re in the city.”
As he spoke, Jiang Li looked up at the sky. The moon was especially bright that night, and perfectly round.
“Ah, the moon is full. I wonder when I’ll be reunited with my family,” Jiang Li murmured to himself.
Before crossing into this world, he too had possessed a complete family. His parents were alive, and his life had been quite comfortable.
“What are you muttering about, Brother Jiang?” Ma De asked curiously.
“Nothing. Come, let’s toast with tea in place of wine!”
After they finished their tea, Jiang Li stood up and slowly exhaled, his gaze sweeping across the small courtyard.
“Wait. Has anyone seen Li Tongxuan?”
The others exchanged bewildered looks, then all shook their heads decisively.
“No. He hasn’t shown up for quite a while.”
For no apparent reason, Jiang Li’s heart began to pound. Li Tongxuan was usually as quiet as a block of wood, but now he had disappeared without making a sound.
“Go look for him. Make sure he didn’t accidentally fall into one of the traps Wild Ox and the others dug,” Jiang Li said hurriedly.
Li Tongxuan’s origins were mysterious, and there seemed to be countless secrets surrounding him. More importantly, he could carry people through the air. He was an absolutely indispensable ally.
With him around, even if they could not make a living by ordinary means, they could always become carefree outlaws who robbed the rich and preyed upon the wicked.
However, before anyone could act, a furious roar suddenly came from the stone hut behind Jiang Li.

“Ahhh!”
“Young master, watch out!”
With a thunderous shout, Chu Chunqiu lunged forward and threw himself over Jiang Li, shielding him beneath his body.
Almost at the same moment, the door to Ma De’s room slammed directly into Chu Chunqiu.
“Ha!” Chu Chunqiu forcefully expelled a breath, then rose quickly and planted himself in front of Jiang Li.
“Are you all right?” Jiang Li hurriedly asked. If Chu Chunqiu had not blocked that blow, Jiang Li would have been seriously injured at the very least, if not killed.
Chu Chunqiu flexed both hands and paid it no heed. “Rest assured, young master. I’m perfectly fine.”
“That’s good.” Jiang Li let out a sigh of relief and turned his gaze toward the interior of Ma De’s room.
It was pitch-black inside. Only a pair of blood-red eyes gleamed with piercing brilliance.
“What happened? Is that Li Tongxuan?” Jiang Li asked in disbelief.
Li Tongxuan had been perfectly normal when he first appeared. He had not shown any signs of change the previous night either. How had he become a monster today?
Could a red spider lily have grown inside Ma De’s hut?
“What the hell? What kind of thing dares to run into my room? It must have a death wish!” Ma De rolled up his sleeves and prepared to charge in.
Jiang Li hurriedly grabbed him. “Don’t move. That’s Li Tongxuan.”
“What? Li Tongxuan?” Ma De froze. His face instantly turned deathly pale, and he pointed a trembling finger into the room.
“Him? Is he the one who encountered a red spider lily?”
Jiang Li’s expression grew solemn. “It seems so. But what I can’t understand is how he managed to escape. He showed no unusual signs last night, so why has he become like this today?”
“Oh no!” Ma De slapped his thigh.
“Brother Jiang, you don’t know this. According to the stories passed down among these natives, once someone is bewitched by a red spider lily, there is absolutely no chance of regaining consciousness.”
“My guess is that the red spider lily which trapped Li Tongxuan in the illusion was accidentally damaged for some unknown reason. That must be how he escaped.”
“But even if he escaped, he would still turn into a monster at night!”
“We can’t let this thing live. We have to kill it!”
