A familiar scent of sandalwood, intertwined with his unique masculine aura, lingered delicately around her nostrils.

A tall, slender figure enveloped her from above with an icy presence.

Instinctively, she stepped back until her back pressed against the wall, a chill creeping down her spine.

When she looked up, her eyes widened in surprise at the visitor.

“What’s the matter, Mianmian? Did you plan to run off after sleeping with me?”

Fu Yanchi’s cold voice carried a hint of grievance.

Luoyun Mian hadn’t expected him to follow her all this way only to start with an accusation. Her eyes darted anxiously, avoiding his gaze, her voice trembling.

“I… I’m here on a business trip.”

Fu Yanchi let out a scoffing laugh.

He propped one hand against the wall, trapping Luoyun Mian between himself and the cold surface. With his other hand, he gently lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.

“Mianmian, are you planning to abandon me again?”

Conflicted and tangled in her emotions, Luoyun Mian struggled to respond to the complexity of their relationship.

“I’m not… but this isn’t right for us.”

“What do you mean ‘not right’? Like this?”

With a mischievous grin, Fu Yanchi leaned down and lightly bit her lips.

Flushed with embarrassment and anger, Luoyun Mian quickly lifted her foot and kicked him in the abdomen.

Caught off guard, Fu Yanchi doubled over in pain, emitting a low groan.

The dim sensor light flickered erratically, casting shifting shadows across his face, highlighting his pained expression.

Had she really hurt him?

Fu Yanchi’s voice came softly, tinged with a hint of complaint.

“Mianmian, if you injure me, then what will you use later?”

The flicker of sympathy in Luoyun Mian’s heart was instantly extinguished, her cheeks burning red.

He was hurt, yet still teasing her.

Seeing his obvious discomfort, she clenched her teeth and swallowed her anger.

“I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Fu Yanchi’s stubborn, insistent voice refused her offer.

“No.”

“This is your own body. If you don’t go and something happens, don’t expect me to take responsibility.”

After a long moment, Fu Yanchi stood up, his voice sulky and accusatory.

“Yesterday, I took such good care of you, Mianmian, and today you’re just crossing the river to destroy the bridge.”

“Mianmian, you’re such a heartless woman.”

“Yanchi, what exactly do you want?”

Luoyun Mian’s emotions teetered on the edge of collapse, her fists clenching and unclenching in frustration.

Her spirit was about to break.

“I’m starving. I haven’t eaten all day just to come find you, Mianmian.”

Fu Yanchi wisely chose this moment to back down.

Their eyes met; the boy’s were bloodshot and his face showed signs of fatigue.

By modern standards, Fu Yanchi had a feline charm—his peach blossom eyes were deep and affectionate, with prominent under-eye bags and slightly drooping outer corners, the quintessential puppy eyes that gave off a gentle warmth when he smiled.

Coupled with his innocent expression now, he resembled a pitiful little puppy.

In the end, Luoyun Mian relented, her heart softening.

“Get yourself dressed properly. Let’s go eat outside.”

She didn’t want to return to the private room and witness Fu Tingshen’s hypocritical performance.

Compared to Fu Tingshen, Fu Yanchi was at least sincere.

Fu Yanchi, of course, was unaware that Luoyun Mian was comparing him to Fu Tingshen.

If she ever compared him to his despised elder brother, he might just lose his mind.

They reached the elevator entrance and stepped inside together.

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Luoyun Mian caught sight of Shen Xin’er, dressed in a striking red bodycon dress, arm in arm with Fu Tingshen, approaching the elevator.

Panicked, she quickly grabbed Fu Yanchi and covered his mouth.

With her lips, she silently instructed him not to speak.

Fu Yanchi, facing the woman directly, suddenly had his mouth covered by a soft, cool hand.

On impulse, he stuck out his tongue and licked it once.

Luoyun Mian stiffened, nearly cursing under her breath.

Just then, someone pressed the elevator door open in time, and several people stepped in.

“Tingshen, Miss Luo has been gone so long without returning. Why don’t you give her a call?”

It was Shen Xin’er’s voice.

No wonder Mianmian was so nervous.

Fu Yanchi stepped forward, lightly pulling open his coat to shield Luoyun Mian.

From behind came a voice: “I’ll call to see where she is.”

Suddenly, a ringtone pierced the cramped elevator.

Luoyun Mian looked at the phone she had hastily picked up.

It was supposed to be on silent.

Then a voice nearby said, “Hello, honey, I’m coming out now, wait for me.”

Fu Yanchi clearly sensed Luoyun Mian exhale in relief.

Fu Tingshen stood aside, dialing a number, but the call wouldn’t go through, a hint of surprise crossing his face.

“How strange, it won’t connect.”

His gaze inadvertently swept over Fu Yanchi’s back, which was turned toward them. The silhouette looked familiar, but he couldn’t place it at once.

“Can’t get through?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about her. She’s a grown woman; she won’t get lost.”

Luoyun Mian breathed a sigh of relief.

So the ringing was from someone else in the elevator.

Shen Xin’er’s eyes casually landed on Fu Yanchi’s back, and she softly uttered, “Hmm?”

“Tingshen, doesn’t that back look a lot like Yanchi?”

The moment she spoke, the elevator fell into an uneasy silence.

Luoyun Mian felt her heart race, a sudden panic as if caught red-handed.

She instinctively grabbed Fu Yanchi’s collar tightly.

Fu Tingshen straightened and reached out to tap Fu Yanchi’s shoulder, but just as his hand was about to land, Fu Yanchi bent slightly.

He reached into the cascade of the woman’s hair, then pressed firmly on the back of her head.

With his other hand, he pulled up his coat, perfectly shielding her face, then bent down and kissed her.

Luoyun Mian’s entire body went numb.

Then she heard Shen Xin’er’s reproachful voice.

“Oh, Tingshen, they’re being affectionate in the elevator. Don’t disturb them.”

From where she stood, Shen Xin’er could see the woman’s long hair draped over the man’s arm.

“Young people these days are really bold.”

She spoke again, her tone tinged with envy.

“You were pretty bold yourself back then, kissing me right at my doorstep.”

“Tingshen…” Shen Xin’er called out in mock scolding.

Listening to their playful banter, Luoyun Mian felt an emptiness spreading within her.

Thankfully, the elevator dinged open, and the others exited, leaving only Luoyun Mian and Fu Yanchi inside.

Unsurprisingly, Luoyun Mian pushed him away.

“Mianmian, are you just going to use me and then discard me again?”

Fu Yanchi took a step back, leaning against the elevator wall, his gaze unwaveringly fixated on her.

His eyelashes fluttered, eyes gleaming with a profound, unreadable emotion. His downcast expression resembled a small, abandoned puppy.

“I… you said you were hungry. Let’s go eat.”

Under such scrutiny, Luoyun Mian suddenly felt guilty, stammering as she tried to change the subject.

After speaking, she wiped the corner of her mouth and stepped out of the elevator first.

How could such a solitary person be so good at acting spoiled? Yet she was clearly falling for it.

Fu Yanchi chuckled softly and followed her out, unconsciously licking his lips.

They tasted sweet.

“Mianmian, wait for me.”
