Chapter Nineteen: If you look at me like that, Sister Mianmian, I won't be able to help myself.
Luo Yunmian’s feet felt like they were filled with lead as she stepped out of the elevator, her gait heavy.
She followed the young man down the corridor in silence. Before long, they stopped at a hotel room door, and he raised his hand to knock lightly. A moment later, the door opened from within, revealing Zhuang Bo.
Zhuang Bo glanced past Fu Yanchi and spotted Luo Yunmian. His lips curled upward, and he raised a hand in a jaunty greeting.
"Hi, Mianmian-jie."
It was clear from his greeting that he had known about her all along. She nodded slightly, suppressing her churning emotions, and followed them into the room.
It was an exquisitely decorated sea-view suite. Upon entering, her eyes were immediately drawn to the bathroom, which was meticulously adorned with black and white marble—delicate and elegant. Inside the room, a spacious bed sat beside a floor-to-ceiling window offering a 270-degree view. Outside, the dazzling nightscape of Victoria Harbour awaited; it should have been an incredibly romantic atmosphere, but Luo Yunmian had no heart to appreciate it.
Her gaze wandered through the room, finally settling on a laptop placed on the table in front of the sofa. Zhuang Bo had already hurried over, sitting down and typing rapidly on the keyboard. While operating it, he spoke to Fu Yanchi.
"Everything is arranged. I had someone send them a bottle of red wine, and the waiter has already installed the hidden camera inside."
Fu Yanchi nodded and turned toward Luo Yunmian, his tone cautious. "Mianmian-jie, the arrangements are all set. I’ve ordered some late-night snacks for you to have later."
Luo Yunmian nodded, took off her coat, and handed it to him. Only then did she notice that her trench coat had been brought up as well, resting on the other side of the sofa. She sat down, and her phone chimed with a text message notification. To her surprise, when she checked the screen, it was from Shen Xin'er.
It was a blatant provocation.
It was a selfie of the woman wearing a sexy black lace camisole. Behind her, a man was in the bathroom, his lower body obscured. Fu Yanchi, standing beside her, naturally saw the content of her phone from above.
"Miss Luo, your boyfriend has succumbed to my charms for countless nights."
Fu Yanchi instinctively looked at Luo Yunmian’s face. The latter merely twitched the corner of her mouth, swiped her finger, and took a screenshot with a sharp click. She raised her eyes, meeting the young man’s gaze with a calm expression.
"I’m not that fragile."
Zhuang Bo chimed in, "They’re about to start. Do you want to watch the live stream?"
Fu Yanchi stepped forward and gave him a hard smack on the head, his eyes flashing with a hint of irritation. "Mute it."
With an "Ouch," Zhuang Bo shot Fu Yanchi a resentful look but obeyed. From start to finish, Luo Yunmian did not spare another glance at the video of the man and woman entangled on the computer screen. Having the evidence was enough. Her heart felt as though it had been pierced beyond repair, yet she had learned to appear as composed as possible in front of others.
Just then, a knock at the door sounded. Fu Yanchi went to open it, took the bag, and closed the door.
"Eat something first."
He had ordered three bowls of noodles. One bowl had extra cilantro and no green onions; Fu Yanchi helped open the lid and placed it in front of Luo Yunmian. She stared at it blankly; the young man was indeed attentive, always remembering her preferences.
It would be a lie to say she wasn’t moved, yet their relationship wasn't exactly above board. If her parents knew she was involved in an ambiguous situation with her boyfriend’s younger brother, they would surely be disappointed. The biggest issue was that the young man was three years her junior; in her mind, she had always thought of him as a little brother.
She looked at the other two bowls, both of which contained green onions. Many answers were on the verge of surfacing, but she dared not seek confirmation, nor did she dare take a step forward. Six years of affection had taken root, and attempting to pull away would inevitably tear at those deep-seated attachments and long-accustomed habits.
"Mianmian-jie?" Fu Yanchi called out.
Luo Yunmian pulled at her lips to form a smile and picked up her chopsticks. "Thank you."
Yet, the detachment in her tone was easily detected by Fu Yanchi. He lowered his head, clenched his hands tightly to suppress the turmoil in his heart, and spoke with a hint of bitterness.
"Mianmian-jie, if you want to stop it, I can take someone to knock on the door."
Luo Yunmian couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. He was being hypocritical; he was probably the one who wanted Fu Tingchen to cheat the most. She set down her chopsticks, rested her chin in her hand, and for a rare moment, forgot the oppressive emotions brought on by Fu Tingchen’s betrayal.
Her eyes danced with a hint of mockery, and a faint smile played on her red lips. "Sure, Yanchi. Go knock on the door now; you might just cause your brother to suffer from premature ejaculation!"
"Pfft!" Zhuang Bo spat his noodles all over the table. He choked, coughing violently until tears welled in his eyes. When he finally caught his breath, he scrambled to grab a tissue, wiping the table while desperately trying to suppress his laughter, though his shaking shoulders betrayed him.
"Mianmian-jie, you’re too cute! I really can’t help it!"
Fu Yanchi tilted his head and glared at Zhuang Bo, then turned his gaze to the woman before him. She certainly knew how to exact her revenge.
Killing two birds with one stone.
If he knocked on the door, his brother might truly be startled, and as for him, once he knew about their illicit affair, he would naturally develop a rift with his brother.
The young man’s lips curled slightly. He leaned forward, reached out, and gently brushed a strand of the woman’s seaweed-like hair, his peach-blossom eyes filled with deep amusement.
"Mianmian-jie, you’re too naughty."
Luo Yunmian felt a jolt as the young man’s warm palm touched the nape of her neck, leaving a tingling sensation. As their eyes met, his expression faltered for a moment, though he quickly feigned composure. With long, slender fingers, he delicately tucked the strand of hair that had fallen onto her chest behind her ear.
Luo Yunmian felt like she had shot herself in the foot. Not only had she failed to tease him, but she had also been flirted with in return.
Flustered, she stood up and looked around the room to change the subject. "Are we staying here all night?"
Fu Yanchi nodded. "Mianmian-jie, go get some sleep. We’ll keep watch."
Luo Yunmian said nothing more and walked straight into the bedroom.
Lying in bed, she replayed the events of the day in her mind, finding them all too surreal and dramatic. She had only intended to relax at the bar, yet she had coincidentally almost bumped into Fu Tingchen and his "white moonlight."
Luo Yunmian drifted into a hazy sleep. Her hand inadvertently touched a warm object. She slowly opened her eyes, her consciousness gradually returning, only to discover Fu Yanchi lying beside her.
She was slightly startled, quietly withdrawing the hand she had placed on his back. She couldn't help but study the young man sleeping next to her.
The dim, warm glow from the floor sensor light spilled onto his profile, outlining his rugged facial features. His usually affectionate peach-blossom eyes were closed, making him appear exceptionally gentle, his long lashes casting a shadow.
How could a man have such long lashes? Luo Yunmian felt a twinge of envy.
Just as her mind wandered, Fu Yanchi suddenly opened his eyes. As their gazes locked, Luo Yunmian’s heart skipped a beat. Before she could react, Fu Yanchi reached out to cover her eyes, his low, hoarse voice whispering in her ear:
"If you look at me like that, Mianmian-jie, I won't be able to hold back."
