Shen Shiwei looked at Wei Qing in shock. "What did you say?"

Wei Qing glanced at Shen Heng. "When I went over, there was no car in the garage."

Shen Heng was just as surprised. "What the hell? I just came over after putting some things away!"

Shen Shiwei suddenly remembered something. She turned and walked toward a guest room on the first floor. Opening the door, she saw the bed.

The blanket on the bed was bulging, but there were no shoes by the bedside.

She went over and lifted the blanket directly. There was no one there—only two pillows remained.

Shen Heng and the others stood at the doorway, staring at the scene before them, all wearing expressions of disbelief.

"How did those two know?" Shen Heng furrowed his brows, utterly baffled.

"Did someone eavesdrop?" Shen Shiwei looked at Lu Sui and questioned, "Weren't you guarding the first floor the whole time? People ran off and you didn’t even notice?!"

Lu Sui said nothing. This was indeed his oversight. He simply said, "Drive my car."

"Fine," Shen Shiwei replied coldly, "but you’re not allowed to get in!"

Shen Heng seemed like he wanted to say something, but seeing Shen Shiwei so angry, he ultimately held back and instead walked over to her, gently patting her shoulder.

"But the Gao Li you hate has already left, so we don’t have to leave, right?"

"No!" Shen Shiwei rejected strongly. The more anxious she became, the more panicked she felt inside. Lowering her gaze, she murmured, "We have to leave now. We can’t stay here..."

Shen Heng thought Shen Shiwei's current state was very strange.

Lu Sui turned and walked away.

In the living room, Song Yingjun had already woken up. Sitting on the sofa, he looked at Lu Sui, who was about to leave, and asked, "Captain, where are you going?"

"Bring the car over."

"Ah?" Song Yingjun quickly put on his shoes and followed him.

Outside, the rain was pouring heavily. Lu Sui stood at the entrance, putting on his raincoat. Without hesitation, he opened the door and stepped outside.

At this moment, the iron gate outside was open.

Lu Sui’s expression was somewhat cold. He truly was not suited to handle this kind of task—there wasn’t a single person who behaved themselves.

He stepped through the water and strode toward the SUV.

Song Yingjun hurried after him, splashing water on his pant legs with every step. A chill quickly spread from his feet, but he paid it no mind.

Lu Sui quickly opened the car door, but the moment he got in, he sensed something was wrong.

He got out again and crouched down to check the tires.

The front tires were all slashed and leaking air. The cuts looked like they were made by a knife.

When Song Yingjun arrived, he saw Lu Sui crouched in front of the car.

"What’s wrong?"

"Can’t drive. The tires are slashed."

Song Yingjun widened his eyes. "No way!" He leaned closer to look, then angrily punched the car. "Who’s so despicable as to slash the tires with a knife!"

"This isn’t something just anyone could do," Lu Sui analyzed calmly. "These tires use sharkskin puncture-resistant technology. They aren’t easily pierced. Gao Li and her group definitely wouldn’t do this."

"Gao Li?" Song Yingjun looked confused. "What’s wrong with her now?"

Lu Sui stood up. "Let’s go inside and talk."

They hadn’t taken many steps when a sudden gust of wind blew back the hood of Lu Sui’s raincoat, and cold raindrops hit his face.

Lu Sui wiped his face with his sleeve without much concern and quickly climbed the steps back into the villa.

As they entered, they saw Shen Shiwei and the others standing at the entrance, tidying their clothes.

The self-defense tools Shen Heng had prepared were all placed in that car—and now they were gone.

Song Yingjun felt like he had just taken a nap but somehow was miles behind everyone else in time.

"The rain’s coming down hard outside. What are you all planning to do?"

Shen Heng said, "We’re leaving here now."

"Ah, why?"

Lu Sui pressed his lips together, standing by the door with a low voice. "The car’s broken; we can’t leave."

The next second, a sharp sound rang out.

Suddenly, everything fell silent.

Song Yingjun’s shocked eyes flickered between Lu Sui and Shen Shiwei.

Lu Sui had just been slapped by Shen Shiwei!

Shen Shiwei’s eyes blazed with fury. "Satisfied now? We’re all going to die here!" she accused. "Why protect Gao Li? Why do you have to go against me?!"

Shen Shiwei was about to lose her mind.

Lu Sui’s emotions remained steady. He said in a deep voice, "First of all, I am a soldier. Protecting the people is my duty. I cannot abandon any life because of personal grudges."

"Secondly, I don’t understand why you insist on leaving. In my view, this place is currently safe." Lu Sui paused for two seconds, then looked firmly into Shen Shiwei’s reddening eyes. His tone was resolute. "Even if there is danger, I will risk my life to keep you safe."

"Now, can we calm down and talk properly?"

Shen Shiwei looked into Lu Sui’s eyes, feeling inexplicably afraid of his gaze. She silently stepped back, hiding behind Shen Heng.

"I don’t want to talk to you."

"Alright," Shen Heng unconditionally defended Shen Shiwei. He said to Lu Sui, "She’s just a little girl, just escaped from school. She’s a bit sensitive. Don’t scare her."

Lu Sui took a deep breath and patiently said, "Then let’s sit down and have a proper talk, okay?"

After much fussing through the night, they finally sat quietly on the sofa, exchanging glances.

The vast living room fell silent for a few seconds, with only the relentless sound of rain outside.

Lu Sui broke the silence first. "Miss Shen, can you tell me why you want to leave here?"

Shen Shiwei lowered her eyes, staring at her fingers, saying nothing.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to speak—it was that she didn’t know how to explain.

Tell them a sparrow told her? Ridiculous! She’d be thought crazy!

Shen Heng thought Shen Shiwei was still angry, so he softly coaxed, "Gao Li has already left. Don’t be mad. Even if you don’t want to talk to him, tell your brother. I trust you unconditionally."

Shen Shiwei fiddled with her fingers, her voice small. "I… heard—"

But she couldn’t finish. Biting her lip, her mind raced. Finally, she gave up and decided to just make up some excuse.

Outside, a flash of lightning suddenly lit up the entire villa.

A deafening thunderclap followed immediately.

Shen Heng instinctively pulled Shen Shiwei into his arms, covering her ears.

"Boom—"

"Screech—"

Thunder and the sound of brakes rang out in succession.

The car, which hadn’t yet exited the villa gate, suddenly slammed on the brakes, splashing water everywhere.

The abrupt stop nearly caused Gao Li, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, to crash against the windshield.

"What’s wrong with you? Why stop all of a sudden?" Gao Li shouted, slapping Han Zhu hard on the back of the head.
