Bruised and battered, Liao Wenjie was firmly restrained by the security team, his eyes burning with resentment as they fixed on Tang Jianing.

“Why? Why can’t you spare me?”

The desperate voice came from behind, causing Tang Jianing to pause momentarily as she opened the car door.

“Da Hu, tell him.”

Tang Jianing’s calm voice prompted a burly man sitting behind, holding Liao Wenjie, to deliver a punch.

“When you’re in this world, no matter the grudge, first rule: never deal a fatal blow. Second rule: never bully a woman.”

Seeing Da Hu’s satisfied expression, Tang Jianing shook her head slightly.

“Watch him carefully. Give me the evidence!”

It was impossible for the Chi family to have blackmailed Liao Wenjie for so many years without holding some evidence.

Da Hu handed Tang Jianing a file folder and briefly explained.

“Phone, murder weapon, and a few photos. No question of conviction.”

Hearing this, Tang Jianing nodded and took the folder into the Criminal Investigation Department building.

The case wasn’t particularly difficult. Although the scene had been tampered with, it was riddled with loopholes.

The tricky part was that the victim’s family and the murderer were in cahoots, and Liao Wenjie himself had little to do with Chi Ziqi.

If it weren’t for Tang Jianing catching the details—and her ability to act without needing evidence—this case would have been extremely hard to solve.

As she walked into the bustling criminal investigation office, she approached the director’s office. Before she could knock, a voice filled with anger erupted from inside.

“What a joke! Can’t you feel the murderous aura around Tang Liqian? He has definitely killed someone!”

“According to regulations, we only have twenty-four hours for interrogation. We have to release him soon!”

“I disagree. Even if this case isn’t related to him, Tang Liqian definitely has blood on his hands!”

“He must be released. The municipal committee people will be here soon. If you disagree, take it up with them!”

The director’s voice grew fiery, silencing the room.

Tang Jianing raised an eyebrow outside the door, a faint smile curling on her lips.

She knocked on the firmly shut door, bringing the argument to an end.

“Come in!”

Hearing the director’s command, Tang Jianing pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The spacious office held only the director seated and a younger detective standing nearby.

“I’m leaving now!”

Seeing Tang Jianing enter, the young detective took a deep breath, anger etched on his face, and left the room.

After the door was closed behind him, Tang Jianing sat down in front of the director.

“From the provincial department?”

“Yes, head of the special task force.”

The director’s expression darkened noticeably at the mention.

Tang Jianing placed the file on the desk and leaned back in her chair.

“Here’s a gift for you, and a chance to vent.”

The director was momentarily taken aback, then focused on the file.

“Remember to wear gloves!”

Tang Jianing’s reminder piqued his interest. He found a pair of white gloves in the drawer, donned them, and quickly opened the folder.

In the light, numerous items were visible.

The director pulled out several photos first.

In them, a blood-soaked Liao Wenjie fled in terror, clutching a fruit knife.

Seeing the director’s incredulous expression, Tang Jianing explained.

“The real murderer of Chi Ziqi is the heir of Liao’s Winery. The general sequence of the crime is all here.”

The director’s excitement was palpable.

The provincial task force had nearly exhausted the city bureau recently. Now, if they could bring the culprit back first, it would at least be a humiliating defeat for the provincial team!

“Oh, by the way, I’ve already brought the suspect. He’s in the car outside.”

Tang Jianing’s amused gaze calmed the director. After a moment of eye contact, he sighed.

“Alright, I’ll try to negotiate. Two million sounds likely.”

“Thank you, Director!”

“Go see Tang. He should be up by now.”

With a smile, Tang Jianing grabbed her bag and walked out with the director.

The director called a few detectives and headed toward the parked car outside.

Tang Jianing made her way to the room where her father was held.

She knocked, then entered.

Tang Liqian was already awake, reclining against the headboard with a cup of tea, reading a business book.

Noticing Tang Jianing, he poured her a cup as well.

“What brings you here?”

Watching her father’s leisurely demeanor, Tang Jianing felt a tightness in her chest.

She had been busy all night—catching the killer, issuing orders to pursue.

But her father clearly had a good sleep, savoring the aroma of tea—definitely a premium pre-rain Longjing, costing over two thousand per tael!

“I caught the culprit. He should be out soon.”

“Who?”

Tang Liqian’s interest sharpened immediately.

“The son of that old Liao. I’ve arranged for Zhou Lu to begin acquiring Liao’s Winery today.”

“Do it right. Have you considered taking the deputy general manager position directly?”

“No interest. But I want the land in East City.”

“Fine, it’s yours.”

Tang Jianing had come last night specifically for that East City land. Tang Liqian knew exactly what she meant.

Now that she mentioned it, it was no surprise.

“I’ll leave a car for you. Get ready and head to the company to oversee the acquisition. I’ll go back and get some sleep.”

“Thanks for your hard work!”

Seeing the dark circles under his daughter’s eyes, Tang Liqian couldn’t help but feel a bit of pity.

“Go when you’re ready!”

Yawning, Tang Jianing drank her tea and left the room.

Having informed her father, she no longer needed to manage the subsequent affairs.

Building a near-peak criminal syndicate in that country, coupled with such a massive domestic company—

If anyone thought Tang Liqian was all brawn with no brains, they truly wouldn’t know how they’d meet their end!

After staying up all night, Tang Jianing went home and slept until dusk.

Awakening groggy, she stepped out of her room, where the butler immediately approached.

“Miss, Director Tang is at the company tonight. The kitchen has prepared everything.”

“Alright, send it to the dining room. I’ll eat there.”

“Yes!”

As a foodie, Tang Jianing appreciated the villa’s high-end kitchen.

While enjoying the meal, she didn’t idle, dialing Zhou Lu’s number with ease.
